Hughie flies solo in Highland Laddie

    Press Release

Out of Dynamite Entertainment’s critically acclaimed title, The Boys, comes a special story featuring everybody’s favorite character, Hughie, with The Boys: Highland Laddie coming this August!  Everyone’s favorite pint-sized Scotsman gets his own origin story, written by Garth Ennis, covers by Darick Robertson and with art by Herogasm artist John McCrea. Mind reeling from recent events in The Boys, Wee Hughie heads home to Auchterladle- the semi-idyllic Scottish seaside town where he grew up. All Hughie wants is some time to himself, to return to the bosom of family and friends, and get his head together after two years of unimaginable chaos. But our hero’s luck has always been more cloud than silver lining, and the familiar surroundings he craves are not all they might be. You can go home again- but with old pals warped beyond recognition and strangers in town up to no good, whether or not you should is another matter entirely.

The Boys is set in a contemporary world very much similar to the real one, with one notable exception: a number of people have some form of superpower. The series follows a superpowered CIA squad, known informally as “The Boys”, whose job it is to keep watch on superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or kill them.  Enjoy this tale of Hughie with The Boys: Highland Laddie #1 coming to stores this August!

“Highland Laddie sees everyone’s favorite Scotsman in his own series, with art by Herogasm’s John McCrea,” says writer Garth Ennis.  “All Hughie wants is a break, and thinks the perfect place to get one is back home- in Auchterladle, the little Scottish seaside town where he grew up. But friends and family have their own ways of wearing a man down, and with certain mysterious strangers in town, Hughie’s already fragile psyche is in for another battering.”

“It’s great to be working with Garth again,” says artist John McCrea.  “This series is testing my artistic abilities (!) – hedge shears, parasitic worms, melting eyeballs and flock wallpaper are just a few of my favorite things….”

“I am looking forward to seeing the HITMAN team of McCrea and Ennis together again,” says cover artist Darick Robertson.  “Hughie is such a core character to ‘THE BOYS’ that knowing more about his past will be a great addition to ‘the BOYS’ legacy.”

“I’m incredibly excited for the story that Garth and John will tell on wee Hughie.  This is going to be a more personal story, and we get to see the toll that Hughie’s gone through since the day his beloved was killed in front of him.  Garth has made it a point to ensure that each story is solid, and we’re very fortunate to have John (McCrea) back on art, with Darick providing covers.  This is a dream team, and the tale of one of our favorite “boys”.”

I’ll read it – I’m not always the biggest fan of spin offs, but if it’s just a mini, and written by Ennis, I’m in.
