I understand that DC Comics needs to diversify, and selling action figures based on their properties seems to be right up its alley. Today the company announced it will diversify even more by licensing and distributing collectibles based on other properties including World of Warcraft.
And all of this is going to be done under the company’s new DC Unlimited banner.
The World of Warcraft action figures, basedon Blizzard Entertainment’s MMORPG, will be unveiled later this month at American International Toy Fair in New York.
“Blizzard has created an impressive and interactive universe for World of Warcraft,” said Cheryl Rubin, Senior Vice President Brand Management at DC Comics. “We are proud to be able to deliver DC Direct> ‘> s expertise in creating and distributing authentic collectibles to World of Warcraft under our new DC Unlimited brand.”
The World of Warcraft collectibels will vary in size with multiple points of articulation. For the launch, four-figure assortments of 5-8-inch figures and two additional deluxe figures 10 to 12 inches in size will be available. DC Unlimited has let us know the initial set of figures will include a Blood Elf Rogue, Orc Shaman, Undead Warlock and Dwarf Warrior. The deluxe figures will include a Draenei Paladin and Illidan Stormrage.
The first wave of figures is slated to hit comic book, pop culture, mass market, specialty and toy retailers in Fall 2007.
