Image Comics has informed us, their two issue mini-series Meltdown by David Schwartz and Sean Wang, was featured on the cover of the Miami Herald this week. The feature story focuses on the creators and their road to success with this debut title.
The 35-year-old Miami natives [Meltdown creators David Schwartz and Sean Wang] have followed their childhood dreams into a second career producing Meltdown, a highly anticipated comic book about a superhero called The Flare. But Meltdown…doesn’t just fulfill the dream of two young men with good imaginations. It also breaks tradition with most successful comic book franchises, which set the scenes of their adventures mostly in New York — aka Gotham or Metropolis — or Los Angeles.
Successful screenwriters have long advised those scribes breaking into the biz to write what the own, or to write what they know. In the case of Meltdown Schwartz said, “It only makes sense to base a good portion of the story in South Florida, because it is where we grew up and it is the place that inspired us. And if you can’t draw enough inspiration from your hometown, then where can you get it?”
Meltdown hits shops on December 6th, 2006 for a retail price of $5.99.
