Occasionally, I get all maudlin and pouty about the fact that some of my favorite comic series can’t keep a regular monthly title.  I know that it’s a combination of factors, but I still want a monthly Agents of Atlas series, a monthly Secret Six, even a successful revamp of Archie’s Crusaders.  (Fingers are still crossed on that one.)  Still, even the succes of The Defenders doesn’t entire make up for having to once again bid farewell to the agents of The Higher United Nations Defense Enforcement Reserves…

Marvel announces Spider-Island: Cloak & Dagger #1

Marvel has announced that the team of Cloak and Dagger will be defending the realm when Spider-Island arrives in August.  Morning Glories creator Nick Spencer and artist Emma Rios will team to bring the story to you.

“Nick and Emma are two of the most explosive new talents in comics and they’re matched perfectly on with Cloak and Dagger…two of Marvel’s most exciting characters,” said Marvel Senior Editor Steve Wacker. “ This is the definitely the book to watch coming out of Spider-Island.”

Spider-Island: Cloak and Dagger #1 has a $2.99 cover price.

FEAR ITSELF: Nick Spencer comes to Secret Avengers

Marvel has announced that Nick Spencer and Scot Eaton take on creative duties for the Secret Avengers beginning with issue #13.

Steve Rogers, America’s super-soldier, is well accustomed to making tough calls, but none may be tougher than the ones he’ll have to make to successfully sabotage the abominable threat of Fear Itself.  As the Marvel Universe begins fall like dominoes before one of his bitterest enemies, Rogers will have to recruit a new group of heroes into the fight for freedom of mind, body and soul…and confront the ideals he upheld as the Sentinel of Liberty head-on!

“I couldn’t be happier to have a rising talent like Nick taking the reins of Secret Avengers as we head into Fear Itself” exclaimed SVP of Publishing, Tom Brevoort in a prepared statement. “As evidenced in his THUNDER Agents work, Nick’s got a thoroughly modern approach to the espionage tale, and I expect him to do great things with Steve’s covert squad.”
