Zack contacted us via Twitter to ask the all important question, “If Darth Vader and Neo were in a fight, whose powers would lead to victory?”
Good question Zack, why don’t we let the readers weigh in?

Well, one of them is an emotionless android with telekinetic powers and cool black clothes, the other is Darth Vader ;-)
I give this fight to the guy with the unblockable sword (sabers have a single edge and curved blade, so technically it’s a sword). Sure Neo can fly but Vader can force-choke him then chop him to pieces in close combat.
Are we talking about ‘Neo’, as in ‘Neo inside the Matrix’ or ‘Neo’ as in ‘crippled and blind in the real world’. Nevertheless I think I’m in this with Vader.
I’m taking it has: “Neo Vs Vader in world when both have access to their full powers”
If it’s Neo in the Matrix, I don’t think there’s any debate here. Neo can bend any aspect of the “in the Matrix” world to his whims; hard to beat that.
Except Vader can’t be jacked into the Matrix and, as such, the fight could not occur there.
Unless it was a program simulating Vader. But that wouldn’t really be Vader, now, would it?
Unless you’re Cipher, whereupon you would think that that Vader is just as real as any other Vader. But you wouldn’t really think that because you’re all dead and stuff.
I voted Neo but really this is locked in to the venue and is a non-fight either way. If in the Matrix, Darth Vader would be unlikely to bring his force abilities with him as those are physical traits and not transferable (unless he knows how to hack the Matrix). So Neo would clean his clock. Likewise, in the ‘real’ world, Vader would have mopped the floor with Neo in a couple of seconds.
To make this even a fight you have to assume that force powers are usable inside the Matrix. Once that is established Vader would defeat Neo. Neo would be able to doge a lightsaber no problem, but just as Ricco said, it will be hard for him to do anything while Vader is force choking him.
What’s the point of having Star Wars vs. anybody. R2D2 would probably beat Neo, because of the legion of Star Wars lemmings.
Neo wins this hands down if we are giving both characters full powers. Manipulation of the Matrix is more powerful than manipulation of the force.
Plus, Neo is Jesus
If we are talking Hayden Christensen Vader than Neo wins hands down.
Given that the only way I can mesh the last two Matrix movies with the first is looking at the ‘Real’ world as the next layer in the Matrix onion, Neo would still whip Vader. Vader is, in Kenobi’s words, more machine than man. Vader does the force choke, Neo blows up the machine parts and Vader is now choking on the ground.
Oh and Monica Bellucci > Natalie Portman > Carrie Anne Moss. So Neo has that going for him, which is nice.
Power wise it’s got to be neo, in matrix or out.
Outside of the matrix neo was able to shut down machines simply by concentrating.Vader is mostly machine, so it comes down to does force choke kill faster then neo’s wierd emp thing.
Inside the matrix, force choke doesn’t matter. Neo will just grow a new mouth below the are Vader is choking. Neo has unlimited power in the matrix.
It leaves a sour taste in my mouth, but I have to say… if both had full access to their powers, Neo would win… unless Vader got Starkiller in and they went Force Unleashed on Neo’s ass…
For me, it comes down to this: Vader, while a bit ruined thanks to the prequels, was once a bad-ass. Neo has never been a bad-ass. Not even once.
Vader wins by sucking less.
-D
I have to say, It takes a certain amount of acting ability to be a whinny little cry-baby. Neo doesn’t have the chops for that. “Nooooo!!!!” beats “Woah!” every time.
If we are in the Matrix then Neo will win simply because he’s basically Superman and he’ll get some random power that comes out of nowhere to win. Vader is just a cyborg Jedi. A cool thing, but nowhere near the semi-godhood “the One” seems to have.
Of course, Vader will win since this is just a popularity contest anyways.
I voted Vader, but let’s face it–Doctor Who would mop the floor with both of them.
Dude, K-9 is more man then either of these guys ever was and he’s a freaking robot dog!
I’d say the definition of the Force “… an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together..” implies a metaphysical ability to manipulate aspects of physical reality in much the same way that Neo manipulates the virtual reality of the Matrix. With that in mind, lets assume Vader uses his cyborg aspects to jack into the Matrix. He’d be very comfortable warping reality to his ends, from his experiences with the Force in the ‘real world’. It’d be a helluva fight from that point on, but I give it to Vader because he has a cool helmet, and he was in more good movies (not counting Eps I ,II, or III)
Wait what? I um I don’t know. I guess Im going with Neo since he’s Jesus…its hard to beat Jesus.
You have obviously not watched a lot of South Park ;-)
Vader would have to win every time, or at least be transported to the Matrix in order for Neo to even have a chance.
Let’s see… we got one guy who has all sorts of magical powers while in a computer Matrix, who is powerless in the real world. Another guy who can channel a mysterious, all powerful force through the cells in his body, and use them to choke somebody from across the room, perform feats of superhuman strength, plus a nifty laser sword that can cut through nearly anything. Like last week’s POW, this one is no contest. Neo would be standing there trying to bend a spoon with his mind while good old Darth does the VeggiMatic on him.
I would love to vote for Vader. I would be rooting for Vader. But I have to vote for Neo. They seem to be of equal powers yet Neo isn’t held back by a cumbersome suit of armor.
I voted Darth Vader, not based on power level, but more on character. Neo is supposed to be all powerful while inside the Matrix, able to make the world do anything he wants ; however from what we’ve seen in the movies, he doesn’t seem able to use his powers to their full. He mainly uses flight, telekinesis and martial arts, when he could theoretically reduce his enemies to dust with a snap of his fingers.
Vader, on the other hand, is a ruthless fighter with considerable experience at using his force powers, and can utterly dominate his adversaries. He’s just more badass and battle-hardened, whereas Neo doesn’t fight very well, all things considered.
Assuming that, as in the first Matrix movie, Neo’s Universe consists of only one layer of the Matrix and the real world:
In the “real world” Vader would rip Neo to shreds. He’s just more of a Bad ass. (I’m with Matthew.. there were only 3 Star Wars Movies.). UNLESS he underestimates him (lets say he is unaware of the whole Mess with the Machine powers or he saw ‘Bill and Ted’) and alllows Neo the time to focus his ability. Vader ripped steel equipment off a wall with his TK, if he took you seriously he could crush your skull in a second.
In the Matrix I think the situation would be turned around. Neo would have the initial advantage and be able to crush Vader quickly. UNLESS he understimated him (say he mistook a guy built like an internationally famous body builder and the voice of James Earl Jones for Hayden Christenson for some strange reason) that would give Vader enough time to realise that with his understanding of the universe he could warp reality in there just as well as Neo. THEN you would have a fight… and in the Matrix Vader would be not be restricted by his physical limitations but he would have his force abilities AND the reality warping ability.
Still, as much as I enjoyed the Matrix Vader seems more of a Badass. It would take the Doctor or Captain James T. Kirk (from the original timeline when he had discipline and experience thank you very much) to defeat him.
