Warner Bros. Pictures have announced the release date for The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins. The Chistopher Nolan flick will hit the screen on July 18, 2008.
In the film, Batman and Commissioner Gordon find alliance with a newly appointed DA Harvey Dent to stop a vicious killer with a warped sense of humor known only as The Joker, a threat to both the good, and the evil of Gotham City.
2008 is a long way off. Heck, that’s 20 months from now! A lot can happen in almost two years – if the date can be moved up, let’s up the studio does it. Three years between sequels is almost too much for fans to deal with.
In the good ol’ days of Hollywood, it was very common for studios to crank out a feature film a week. Today, even with the higher production values, studios should be able to get a sequel to screen in under two years.
Of course the reason why they wait so long is so they can make money off DVD sales and related merch. Regardless, The Dark Knight is a mere 608 days away.
