    MARAUDERS #12

    Writer: Gerry Duggan
    Artist: Matteo Lolli
    Colorist: Edgar Delgado
    Letterer: VC’s Cory Petit
    Editor: Jordan D. White
    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Cover Price: $3.99
    Release Date: September 9th, 2020

Previously on Marauders: Sebastian Shaw, the Black King, has murdered Kate Pryde, the Red Queen. He believed that Kate Pryde could not be resurrected due to her inability to use the Krakoa portals. Even if she could be resurrected, she would not have memory of her murder but he did not account for Lockheed. Lockheed flew to Emma Frost, the White Queen, and revealed the truth.

    PLAYING THE IGNORANT QUEEN

Kate Pryde is able to return to the land of the living with a glorious applause from the people she saved. She then heads to her resurrection party with Emma Frost. Kate Pryde reveals that she has a plan for her revenge but they must be patient. She arrives at her party and runs into Sebastian Shaw but pretends she doesn’t suspect him at all. Eventually, Kate Pryde asks Magik to get her out of there. After getting a meal, she arrives at a tattoo parlor and gets the words “Kill Shaw” on her knuckles and heads to the Harbor to enact her plan.

    FEELS LIKE A SOLO BOOK

These last few issues feel like a Kate Pryde solo book. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing because of how good a character Kate is. She does seem to go over the deep end a little bit. She easily flirts with her tattoo artist and even plants a kiss on her as she leaves, knowing that the artist had a date that evening. I assume the tattoo can be healed later but it seems so different to the Kate Pryde who struggled to get to Krakoa in issue one. I’m not sure it is working for me to be honest, I kind of miss the grittier character who broke her nose and was a serious confident leader of the Marauders.

BOTTOM LINE: THIS ONE IS A MISS FOR ME

I feel that nothing really happened here. She went to a party and got a tattoo. There is this plan that Kate has but it isn’t revealed to us, the reader. There is some interesting tension between Kate and the other characters but not enough to sustain my attention. I know there are a lot of cool things that are going to happen in this title and the X-men universe but it doesn’t start here. 3 out of 5 stars for Marauders #12 from me.
