While this isn’t the first time we have been introduced to the main characters of Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) this is the first time we have heard 11-year-old Riley’s parents speak. Caitlin Dias and Kyle MacLachlan were just announced as the voice talent for the parental roles a few days before this trailer dropped.
From what we have seen so far of Inside Out we haven’t left the kitchen space with Riley and haven’t seen her emotions venture outside the control-room looking space inside her mind. According the synopsis that has been released, the film will get outside of that kitchen as Riley tries to adjust from moving from the Midwest to San Francisco.
As Riley goes about trying to make new friends at school I’m wondering how the film will handle cutting back and forth between what she is saying and how the different emotions are reacting inside her mind. Here we saw the emotions reactions each time before the person spoke, which could quickly lengthen out short conversations and slow the plot way down. But this isn’t Pixar’s first outing, I’m sure they know just the right way to handle it.
Inside Out will release in the US on June 19th while the UK will have to wait until July 24th to see it.
