Due to the huge success of The LEGO Movie we all could have guessed that a sequel was going to be put into production. But who could have guess that the success would lead to production of a Minecraft film?
Announced yesterday by Markus “Notch” Persson, the creator of Minecraft, Warner Bros. is moving forward with developing a film based off the game that has seen massive world-wide success boasting a user base of over 100 million.
Roy Lee who produced The LEGO Movie is attached to the project in a producing role along with Jill Messick under the Vertigo Entertainment banner.
Having never played Minecraft it is hard for me to imagine what the story could be about, but there isn’t a story line built inherently into LEGO either. What I am interested in seeing is what the studio decides to do with the design and animation in the film. Will they stick with the current look and feel of the game or change it up a bit.
What are your thoughts about this announcement? Do you think it is a property that lends itself to the screen? Sound off in the comments below!

Legos have a HUGE following. Almost everyone has played with legos at some point or at least knows what they are. Not only that, they took the basic concept and made something unexpected with it, that still paid tribute to the toy everyone loves.
A Minecraft movie will have to really reach to not be a knock-off.
