Hey here’s something that shouldn’t get anyone too offended – Michael Turner is doing the variant cover to Thor #1, and it actually doesn’t suck! The variant cover will ship in a 50/50 ratio with the Olivier Coipel cover.
What does the post Civil War Marvel U hold for the god of thunder?
THOR #1 (MAY072156)
Written by J. MICHAEL STRACZYNSKI
Pencils and Cover by OLIVIER COIPEL
Variant Cover by MICHAEL TURNER
Written by J. Michael Staczynski (Amazing Spider-Man) and with mind blowing art by Olivier Coipel (House Of M), Thor #1 features the return of the titular hero to a world changed by Civil War. What place does Thor have in this world? How exactly did he return? And will he ever be the same again?
Thor #1 arrives July 5, 2007 for $2.99.

Coipel makes Turners cover look like crap. I am so sick of seeing the same face on every hero Turner draws. Cut and Paste: Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Flash, Thor… They all look the same!!! The worst was the Identity Crisis covers. Rags Morales brought so much character and emotion to that story, and they have Turner drawing rows of heroes with the same faces on the covers!
Sorry, I am not usually a comment ranter…
Eric, Please, tell us how you really feel. :D
I prefer the Coipel cover too, but considering the crap Turner turned out for that Justice League cover and that deformed Supergirl anatomy, this is at least a step up for him.
Preach on, Brother Eric!
And don’t ever apologize for calling Marvel and DC’s marketing people on their bull$#!+. It’s insulting the creators who do the book when they stuntcast the cover, moreso when the cover artist couldn’t draw flies if you beat him to death and left him in the desert to fester…
…but I’m not bitter, mind you.
Hmm…I don’t see anything especially wrong with Thor.
That Supergirlc over was annoyingly horrid, though. And his work on power Girl leaves a lot to be desired – heck, ANYONE’s work on Power Girl leaves a lot to be desired.
It’s the best cover Turner has done in a long while, but I still don’t like it.
I do like Thor’s new outfit though.
Ooh yes, me too…the black shirt & little…stone things make me think that it’s like the ‘Ipod Nano’ incarnation of Thor. The Thor of today…
