Zenescope Entertainment has quietly been growing its title list for the last couple of years, and in anticipation of a new year, the company has released its list of new titles and mini-series arriving in 2010.  The company also points out that those who were following the Salem’s Daughter and 1001 Arabian Nights series shouldn’t think the series have been canceled. A company spokesperson says the next two issues in the series have been held back and are going to be resolicited in the months ahead.

Although Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are some of the most famous characters in Lewis Carroll’s  “Through the Looking Glass” (they never actually appeared in the original “Alice in Wonderland” and debuted in the books sequel), they have yet to play an essential role in Zenescope’s adaptation. They made a brief appearance way back in issue #2 of Return to Wonderland when Calie stumbled upon their bloody bodies (along with the Walrus) at the Fish Dinner’s restaurant. They were apparently murdered by the Carpenter but we never discovered the reasons why or the identity of the two men until now.

Ralph Tedesco from Zenescope Entertainment sent word that comic artist Andrew Mangum is battling cancer.  To help, Zenescope has set up an auction to raise money for medical costs. The auction includes some very rare Zenescope items like GRIMM FAIRY TALES #1 first printing and GRIMM FAIRY TALES #16 limited edition exclusive with cover art by Andrew himself.   Many other artists are donating sketches and original artwork, etc.  so I just wanted to make people aware of the situation. In Grimm Fairy Tales #29 (King Midas) we were introduced to Mercy Dante, a character who became quite controversial among fans of the series.  In the issue Mercy fulfilled her plans for revenge against David Frank, a retired hit man who murdered her parents (who were weapon dealers) when she was a child.  A grownup Mercy kidnaps David’s daughter, Trisha, from school one day, and takes her to a warehouse where her father is bound to a chair. Mercy proceeds to shoot Trisha to death in front of her father. You can easily see where the controversy comes in.

Calie travels through the looking glass one last time on a desperate mission to rescue her daughter. If you don’t know anything about Zenescope’s best selling Wonderland series, I would advise that you go to your local comic store and pick up the Return to Wonderland hardback along with back issues of Beyond Wonderland (the Tales from Wonderland trade paperback is also a great read which contains individual stories on characters such as the Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts). You don’t necessarily have to read the first two chapters to enjoy Escape but it will add to your reading…
