Warner Bros. Pictures have announced the release date for The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins.  The Chistopher Nolan flick will hit the screen on July 18, 2008. In the film, Batman and Commissioner Gordon find alliance with a newly appointed DA Harvey Dent to stop a vicious killer with a warped sense of humor known only as The Joker, a threat to both the good, and the evil of Gotham City. 2008 is a long way off.  Heck, that’s 20 months from now!  A lot can happen in almost two years – if the date can be moved…

While it is no surprise that many movie franchises today are set up in three picture deals (Spider-Man for example), it is interesting the studios would sign a three picture deal on Transformers based on fan love. According to an interview with Shia LaBeouf, who plays Sam Witwicky, the thespian is under contract for Transformers 2 and 3. According to Variety, Nicholas Cage will be staring in a bigscreen adaptation of Virgin Comics “The Sadhu”.  The movie will combine action and mythology from India.  The script is being written by spiritual author and Virgin Comics co-founder Deepak Chopra. Cage will play James Jenson, a soldier who travels to India during colonial times and becomes a spiritual warrior. via Variety (link)

Spider-Man fans will get a long-awaited sneak peek at Columbia Pictures’ highly anticipated motion picture Spider-Man 3 when a new, full-length, two-and-a-half minute trailer debuts in a special unprecedented “road block” across Viacom Inc.’s brands and on the CBS Television Network on Thursday, November 9, at approximately 10:00 pm. Spider-Man 3, starring Tobey Maguire and directed by Sam Raimi, kicks off next summer’s moviegoing season on May 4, 2007.

Marvel Studios and Universal Pictures have announced their new take on the Incredible Hulk film franchise will hit theatres June 27, 2008.  The announcement was made today by Michael Helfant, President and COO, Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, President of Production for Marvel Studios. Louis Leterrier will direct, with Zak Penn writing.  The project is being produced by Avi Arad, Kevin Feige and Gale Anne Hurd and will be executive produced by Michael Helfant, David Womark, and Ari Arad. Variety is reporting that Bryan Singer has inked a deal with Warner Bros. Pictures to produce and direct the sequel to Superman Returns. Even though there is no budget or script, the film should hit the screen in 2009. The deal comes shortly after the announcement that Superman Returns passed the $200 million mark domestically. Even though the film has made $390 million world wide, I believe the studio was hoping to make that money in less time. Variety has confirmed what we reported on months ago – Terrence Howard will play Tony Stark’s buddy Jim Rhodes in the upcoming Iron Man movie. It’s pretty much accepted that, unless Iron Man turns into a huge bomb in the box office, the franchise and sequel potential is very high.
