Arcana Comics has announced that Jennica Harper has been hired to write the big screen adaptation of the company’s Clockwork Girl. The comic tells the tale of a nameless robot girl and her friendship with an amazing mutant boy. The series was the first release from Arcana’s new Arcana Kids imprint and has received critical acclaim for its artwork and touching story. If you haven’t picked up the hard cover of this nice series, you really should; it is a sweet little story that will make a great animated film. via Arcana Comics

Sad news for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, Universal Pictures has decided to pull out of the three picture deal for the CGI adaptation of Tintin.  The biggest reason for the break in the deal wasn’t Spielberg trying to break DreamWorks away from Paramount, but the $130 million budget.  In a day an age where $130 million seems like a drop in the bucket for a franchise that could literally net Universal ten times that in world wide distribution, something certainly seems fishy. Probably the most exciting news to filter through the Interwebs over the weekend, was the story of Stephen Chow signing to direct and star in the Green Hornet.  Now I don’t know how many Major Spoilers readers have seen Kung Fu Hustle or Shaolin Soccer but those two flicks are great examples of how to blend action, humor, and kick-ass special effects into films that work. Diamond Comic Distributors sent Major Spoilers a rundown of the top 50 manga titles for August 2008.  Probably most interesting is finding the World of Warcraft title taking the number one spot, as I really expected a vampire, or space, or space vampire, or Naruto title to take the top spot.  Also a surprise, was to find another Blizzard Entertainment property, Starcraft, taking the number three spot on the list.
