Co-sign on Matthew’s Swamp Thing and Rodrigo’s pick of Jeff Lemire, but my Jeff Lemire pick for reading in the dark would be Sweet Tooth. Very appropriate for the near-Sweet Tooth apocalyptic weirdness that’s been the past year and a half, and it definitely has that “scary dark fairytale” quality that Rodrigo mentioned with Bone.
I’ve also been slowly growing my collection of EC Comics b&w artist edition hardcovers, and those are a great read for late nights with a glass of something strong and a pair of warm socks on in bed. Just creepy and pulpy enough to be engaging, but not so creepy i won’t be able to fall right asleep after. Sorta like the cozy book version of watching a couple Twilight Zone episodes.
