AMETHYST #1
Writer: Amy Reeder
Artist: Amy Reeder
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Following her triumphant reintroduction in the pages of Young Justice, the new Amethyst miniseries follows teenager Amy Winston-a.k.a. Princess Amethyst-as she returns to her magical kingdom to celebrate her 16th birthday in style. The only problem? Her kingdom is missing, her subjects have vanished, and none in the realm of Gemworld-even her best friend, Lady Turquoise-remain loyal to her house! Alone and dejected, Amy’s forced to find new allies and confront dark secrets on an all-new quest to the farthest reaches of Gemworld.
INGRID: I am excited for this book. I loved the original Amethyst series, and I really liked the recent peek at the Gemworld we saw in Young Justice. I think there is good potential here for magic and mayhem, and in this day and age, I’m looking forward to seeing her adventures as a young heroine coming of age.
DIAL H FOR HERO #12
Writer: Sam Humphries
Artist: Joe Quinones

SOLICITATION: Miguel must face his most dangerous opponent yet-himself! With the fate of the Multiverse hanging in the balance, Miguel must battle his literal dark side. Will he and Summer survive the experience? And will the power of the H-Dial be lost forever?
MATTHEW: This book has finally nailed the balance of whimsy and adventure necessary for a Dial H story in the classic Silver Age vein, but still staying modern. I’m sad to see it go, but really want to see how it all wraps up.
FINGER GUNS #1
Writer: Justin Richards
Artist: Val Halvorson
Publisher: Vault Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Two troubled teenagers discover they can manipulate emotions by firing Finger Guns. There will be laughs. There will be tears. There will be uncomfortable teen feelings and angst. Oh yeah… and chaos. So much chaos.
INGRID: Vault Comics has been making a name for themselves as the home of interesting and innovative comics. I find stories here I haven’t seen before, and Finger Guns is one of those. Just think of teenagers with the power to manipulate other people’s emotions. There is so much potential, and it sounds like it will be fun.
FORCE WORKS 2020 #1 (OF 3)
Writer: Matthem Rosenberg
Arist: Juanan Ramirez

Join War Machine and his elite paramilitary squad (U.S.Agent, Mockingbird, and Quake) in the final crusade for humanity’s fate!
CHRISTOPHER: This seems like an interesting premise with a group of heroes I enjoy reading. With only three issues in this miniseries, it is worth my short-term attention.
HIDDEN SOCIETY #1 (OF 4)
Writer: Rafael Scavone
Artist: Rafael Albuquerque
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: A new series from Rafael Albuquerque and Rafael Scavone, the team behind Neil Gaiman’s A Study in Emerald! Hidden from ordinary eyes, there is a world alongside our own full of deities, demons, and danger-where magic wins out over science and dark secrets lie in wait. Ulloo, the last wizard from the Hidden Society, enlists the aid of a blind girl and her demon, a young magician, and a cursed bounty hunter in order to stop a group of nihilist warlocks from waking the Society’s greatest nemesis: a primeval force that, unchecked, will scorch the planet bare of all life.
CHRISTOPHER: The cover caught my attention; a blind girl with a dog, a magic user, a person with a gun in the background, and the weird imp thing? I was hooked immediately. I look forward to seeing how they balance modern day society and magic.
STEPHEN: This is an interesting book. A bit of a slow start, but I think in the long run this could be a really fun series.
SEX CRIMINALS #27
Writer: Matt Fraction
Artist: Chip Zdarsky
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Suze and Jon inch closer to the big finish, albeit in very different ways, bringing Suze face-to-face with her future, and Jon-well, read it, it’s a whole thing.
MATTHEW: Every issue of this book is a weird little treat full of meta-textual moments, wonderful character bits and general adult content, and we must cherish each one, especially as it’s all coming to an end soon. If you haven’t been reading… Well, don’t start here. But do start, because it’s a lovely comic book experience.
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: JENNIKA #1

Not to mention a brand new villain! Brahm Revel (Guerrillas) returns to reveal more of Jennika’s backstory from his acclaimed TMNT Universe tale “What is Ninja?”!
MATTHEW: For years, the rumors were that the creator of TMNT had a hard-and-fast rule: No Female Turtles. Now that Jennika is here, I’m really interested in how they’re going to integrate her with the TMNT universe and what role she’s going to take.
TOMORROW #1 (Of 5)
Writer: Peter Milligan
Artist: Jesus Hervas
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: In this shocking new sci-fi horror series, a Russian computer virus has jumped the species barrier and wiped out most of the adult population, leaving the world precariously in the hands of the next generation. In the wake of devastation, musical prodigy Oscar Fuentes is separated from his twin sister Cira. Stranded on opposite sides of the country, they’re swept into rapidly evolving networks of teenage gangs. Can Oscar find his way back to Cira . . . or will they be lost to each other forever, in a dangerous makeshift civilization that is mercilessly replacing the past?
From acclaimed and legendary writer Peter Milligan (Shade the Changing Man, Enigma, X-Statix) and breakout artist Jesus Hervas (Penny Dreadful , Sons of Anarchy, Hellraiser).
CHRISTOPHER: My undergraduate degree was in music performance and I feel that I could get into the psyche of the protagonist. This is also a Lord of the Flies like study of a society without adults. I’m looking forward to the suspense and tension that the solicitation insinuates.
