IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
KINO #16
Writer: Alex Paknadel
Artist: Diego Galindo
Publisher: The Lion Forge, LLC
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Meath finally checks in on Myers in Broadmoor psychiatric prison, but something feels off and Myers seems uncharacteristically rational and eerily calm. But there’s no rest for the wicked, and after Meath returns to London, he goes face-to-face with the twin threats of Revanche, a pyrokinetic, and Aphasia, who has the ability to make his victims speak entirely different languages — a combo that adds more than a pinch of hysteria to the crisis.
INGRID: A fascinating deconstruction of a superhero story – what good are superpowers when the enemy is insidiously part of everyday life including the government, and when reality itself can be manipulated through fear and propaganda? Every issue gets more chilling than the last, and it is a terrific read!
QUEEN OF BAD DREAMS #2
Writer: Danny Lore
Artist: Jordi Pẽrez
Publisher: Vault Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: After confronting the fugitive dream figment Ava, IJ Daher makes the fateful decision not to take her target back to the Morphean Annex. Her instincts appear to be right when Ava leads her closer to the truth about the Chase family. Did Ava truly escape, or has she simply jumped from one nightmare to another?
INGRID: This is a fascinating sci-fi detective story where the investigation involves dreams who have slipped into reality and may have the opportunity to become their own individuals. Top it off with stylish art, and what’s not to like!
RICK & MORTY #50
Writers: Kyle Starks, Tini Howard, Marc Ellerby, Benjamin Dewey, Sarah Graley, Josh Trujillo
Artists: Marc Ellerby, Kyle Starks, Andrew MacLean, Benjamin Dewey, Rii Abrego, Sarah Graley, Jarrett Williams
Publisher: Oni Press
Cover Price: $6.99
SOLICITATION: It’s just Rick and Morty. Rick and Morty and their adventures, Morty… Rick and Morty, forever and forever, FIFTY ISSUES Rick and MortyTM! Join us as we celebrate this milestone with a special, super oversized MORTY’S MINDBLOWER issue! Featuring creators from the previous 49 issues!
STEPHEN: I do enjoy Rick and Morty, and this is a very good issue to both celebrate a 50th issue milestone, and tie-in to a well-known episode of the series. Rick and Morty fans, pick this up!
SPENCER AND LOCKE 2 #2
Writer: David Pepose
Artist: Jorge Santiago Jr.
Publisher: Action Lab – Danger Zone
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The trial of Spencer and Locke starts now! After turning the city upside-down to stop Roach Riley, our hard-boiled heroes suddenly find themselves on the wrong side of the law, but what happens when Roach crashes their hearing with a sixty-ton tank?
STACY: The action in this issue moves at a rapid pace, and Pepose and his team of creators keep the pressure on while delivering a suspenseful read. Issues? Sure, you can find a few here and there, but there is nothing on the printed page that will cause you true grief. It is a rollercoaster ride of action and drama that will leave you waiting breathlessly for the next issue.
And that last page, oh… my… gosh. My heart sank. I really dread what may come next, but I know it will be worth it.
SPENCER & LOCKE 2 #2 continues an excellent series you should be getting. Pick it up now.
SUPERMAN LEVIATHAN RISING SPECIAL #1
Writers: Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, Greg Rucka, Marc Andreyko
Artists: Steve Lieber, Mike Perkins
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $9.99
SOLICITATION: An all-star roster of writers and artists highlight the new threat of Leviathan, but also tees up new ongoing series for Jimmy Olsen by writer Matt Fraction and artist Steve Lieber, and Lois Lane by writer Greg Rucka and artist Mike Perkins, coming in June! As Leviathan enacts a plan to take down Superman, it’s up to Lois, Jimmy and the heroes of the DC Universe to rescue the Man of Steel.
STEPHEN: REally enjoyed this buildup to the big event. If you want to see how all the Superman titles are going to tie-in to the Leviathan storyline, this is the book you are going to need. If you haven’t been reading all of the Superman related books, there are going ot be some head scratching moments, but overall, this is a good (but expensive) book.
