Love it when they start from #1.
I know the reasons why and the arguments.
I just do not see the industry being really interested in getting new readers and see this as more of a gimmick each and every time I see it.
If there was always a fixed end point whenever a series began whether it is a mini or maxi series, I wouldn’t have a problem. I just hate the #1 just to say it is #1.
I frequently wonder what some artists think of when they draw. That first splash page in Wolverine looks like a gravity defying yoga pose gone wrong. Sigh.
I agree with you, Slappy, it would be nice if the #1 wasn’t such an arbitrary thing. I’m sure a lot of books would really benefit from your suggestion of a predetermined number of issues. I wouldn’t mind if a book started at #1 and ran until #x fully knowing that ONE story was being told and that it had a definite end approaching. It’s more or less what they do with making writers write towards the trade, already so why not go the rest of the distance and stop numbering books the old way.
Both Secret Warriors and SHIELD are doing just that.
I know it won’t hurt Wolverine if he falls off that building, but seriously, in the second picture what is keeping his balance? He should be doing a header into a dumpster below.
