Correct me if wrong, but I thought Rodrigo mentioned that when a god verbally committed to the new treaty, it would mystically tie them to it?
Yes, that sounds right. I don’t think Rodrigo would run the type of game where a god agrees in clear terms, then reneges later. He makes the party work, but they always know what they’re working for.
That whole plan and process seems exactly right for the torkeltone nearly dead men.
It’s exactly what I thought would happen and clearly Rodrigo did too. I think if they had pushed scratchums they could have worked out something.
Man, there is a LOT of griping this week (and next week, via the Patreon episode) about the badness of the plan from people who didn’t contribute to it when it was being made, or do anything to modify it when it was falling apart. I never thought of Sparkle Motion as creating a toxic work environment before, but this reminded me waaaay too much of my worst jobs, where everyone was much more interested in spreading blame than fixing the problem.
I think there is a lot of “well, we got Gomma’s signature, and that was pretty easy, maybe this will work, too” kind of thinking going on…
Also, I don’t think any players were upset by what was going on. I’m pretty sure we were all having a good time.
Yeah, but that’s not what I’m talking about, I’m talking about the dynamic of people complaining without contributing. Surely at some point, if everyone involved thinks you’re doing something dumb and dangerous and pointless, you should reconsider what you’re doing instead of doubling down?
I mean, I have no problem with where this went. As always, it’s a riveting story. I don’t think the group has been in this much trouble since… 2014 and the Buick Of Goblins fight? I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the new Patreon episode, to see how it all turned out.
And I certainly have no problem with plans going badly. (Though I was a little sorry Ket didn’t get to lurk around and figure out how to save the day, since it seemed that was where the story was going, and it’d be such an interesting place for his character to be in, much like the dilemma Orem faced waaaay back in the tower of exploding skeletons.) I think failure is a really important part of any longterm story, so the protagonists don’t get complacent and the stakes feel real.
But at some point, the “if you aren’t part of the solution, you’re part of the problem” rule kicks in. Given some of the things Sparkle says in the next episode, I’m hoping the party learns something from this and works to participate in making plans, instead of just complaining about them.
I was thinking the same thing listening to the episode – certainly I expect off mic that anything ‘serious’ would have been settled, but the amount of badgering Sam got about the plan that nobody seemed to stop from happening seemed excessive.
This probably would have been my favorite episode except for that part. Still good stuff all in all, but one minor quibble.
Ultimate example of rogue greed? XD sorry just catching up
