Radical Publishing announced that Disney picked up the film rights to the company’s graphic novel Oblivion.
In a future where the Earth’s surface has been irradiated beyond recognition, the remnants of humanity live above the clouds, safe from the brutal alien Scavengers that stalk the ruins. But when surface drone repairman Jak discovers a mysterious woman in a crash-landed pod, it sets off an unstoppable chain of events that will force him to question everything he knows.
The book is created by TRON: Legacy director, Joseph Kosinski, written by Arvid Nelson, with art by Andree Wallin.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Joe Kosinski on OBLIVION,” said Barry Levine, president of Radical Pictures. “Joe is one of the most creative forces in filmmaking today. From the moment he teamed with Radical to produce the book and film, he had such a clear vision of the OBLIVION landscape and universe. Add to that Joe’s successful partnership with Disney on Tron: Legacy, and you have all the ingredients for a phenomenal action/adventure film.”
Kosinski will direct the movie, with Radical’s President and Publisher, Barry Levine producing.

Sounds like a great follow-up to the soon-to-be-success Tron:Legacy is amping up to be. Never heard of this GN nor was aware Kosinski created the world.
I suppose it might potentially be successful, Tron that is, but for a lot of us who were too young whenever the original Tron came out, this sequel isn’t going to be such a huge draw for us. I’ve never had the interest to go and watch the original, even though I’ve heard good things about it, it just doesn’t look interesting at all. Nothing about the teaser images or trailers for this coming movie hold any nostalgia for me either, so I’m not super amped for it. I’m always wanting movies that increase our niche to do well, so I really hope it sells like crazy, but I just have my doubts that there really is much of a market for this Tron movie. Now the Oblivion thing, while I know nothing about it, it sounds pretty interesting and I’d like to know more about the plot and the book it’s based off of.
