MECH CADET YU #1
Writer: Greg Pak
Artist: Takeshi Miyazawa
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Once a year, giant robots from outer space come to Earth and bond with young cadets from the elite Sky Corps Academy to defend the world from the terrifying aliens known as the Sharg. It’s a great honor to be chosen, but this year…well, the wrong kid was picked.
STEPHEN: WOW! If you are a fan of the giant robot genre and the teenage space anime that invaded the U.S. in the late ’70s early ’80s then you are going to love the heck out of Mech Cadet Yu. Yes, tropes can be distracting, but sometimes you gotta slide into the skid and embrace what is going on. Definitely a must read this week.
ROBOTECH #1
Writer: Brian Wood
Artist: Marco Turini
Publisher: Titan Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Not just another retelling of the Macross saga …
The story continues as we bring Carl Macek’s original vision full circle. Taking into account every iteration of the series, this new Robotech #1 casts a fresh eye over classic characters like Rick Hunter, Lisa Hayes, Lynn Minmei, Roy Fokker, Claudia Grant, and Henry Gloval. Brian Wood and Marco Turini take us back to a Macross Island where *nothing* can be taken for granted.
STEPHEN: This week is all about giant robots for me. Robotech was one of those tales that kept me entertained as a kid, so I’m looking forward to seeing what Titan Comics does with the property.
