Holy cats did I love this episode. Voluble Brian chatting up a storm in his secret identity! Sam’s scary voice! (And playing so many noticeably distinct NPCs with very different personalities.) Rob describing Eshen’s threat display! Matthew spontaneously inventing a bizarre party anecdote and pulling out some deep-cut Steven King trivia!
But my favorite thing is undoubtably Chema facing his fears with shaky hands and a promise that if he doesn’t make it, others will follow. Nothing in hero stories gets me more than characters who are shaken by something terrifying, but fight back anyway. It’s so much more personal and human and interesting than characters who just don’t feel fear.
if I didn’t know this was recorded and edited weeks if not months in advance I would think this was released to coincide with the whole Paris accord thing XD
I knew this party was going to be interesting! I like that Sam subtly teased that there was a body or a person under the tarp and it turned out to be a diorama. At least that’s what I thought she was doing. It seems like the players tensed up when she described it too.
It was great that Matthew pointed out how well Sam did role-playing the voice of Miller, because I was feeling the same way as a listener. It was definitely on par with Rodrigo’s depiction of Brother Pine and Brother Olaf in “Holes” back in Season 4. I’ve been enjoying the way Sam does voices.
Thanks for this great story arc. Let’s have some Season 6 teasers soon? ;)
I LOVED this episode. So many high points but I smiled all the way through Russell’s awkward flirting with Maria. They are my new ship couple – Mussell / Ruria ? Keep up the excellent work and horrific evil guy decsriptions, Sam.

MaRussia… no wait…
Hi All, I’m BACK and so happy about it!
I was a regular listener from 2010 – 2014 and got all the way up to Ep. 278 where you were just about to start a 5th Ed. game in off-season. You may or may not care why I left, but I will say it was entirely about my personal stuff and nothing to do with you all!
I don’t remember a much about the story though, so I am biting the bullet and re-listening to ALL the episodes again (currently back up to Ep. 13 A Battle in the Altar). Glad to be taking the time, because I am loving it all over again! Though I am a bit daunted by the sheer number of hours of listening ahead. :-)
Maybe this time I will actually get my head around the timey wimey thing in Season 3, or understand the interaction with Orem and Kord, or the party and the greater fey in Season 4. Sigh!
So glad you are still producing though, and can’t wait to catch up.
Cheers,
Scott

Welcome back.
So almost 17 months after posting the above, I’m just caught up to here!! Sigh. So much more to go…. But I’m a huge fan of you all, and have enjoyed re-listening to the main campaign, and I really like Samantha’s story and DM style. :-) Onward!!
