Stephen!
You made my day with all of your talk about your interest in binaural audio. I’ve been a fan of this technology for years, back from when I first stumbled across the “Virtual Barber Shop” clip on YouTube which from the date stamp was posted up nine years ago.
It’s always surprised me that it wasn’t something that took off as *the* definitive way to record podcasts and especially radio dramas (yes, I’ll stick to my guns on the old terminology. I’ve hit my mid-thirties and feel I’ve earned the right to fear change). I find from an immersion point of view, nothing else can compare with the effect it delivers. Putting aside factors like combining streams from participants at multiple locations which would possibly rule it out for certain podcast recording setups, I’m still surprised it never really seemed to get the attention I always felt it deserved. Are there other major technical setbacks I’m not considering that rules it out as a competitive technology?
You’d mentioned having found a few other radio dramas that are recording in binaural. I’d love to know which ones they were, if there were any that really stood out for you. I’m always on the hunt for people working with the technology.
Keep up the fine work!
One of the biggest drawbacks is, until recently, a good binaural microphone cost $8,000 and up.
Here is an article I wrote about my experiences so far.

I’m listening to Darkest Night, which is a bit disturbing, but the experience does work. I will not that it is a bit harder to create the experience in post with a stereo effect, but I think some shows are doing this and claiming it is binaural.
Thanks for listening, and thank you for your comments!
Also, those who are highest Patreon members have access to some stuff we’ve been working on using this technology.
