Comicbook.com and Heroic Hollywood have confirmed that Netflix’s Iron Fist show for Marvel is not only moving forward, following swirling rumours a few short weeks ago that it was getting canned, but that it has found it’s show runner in Scott Buck.
Buck has been producer and executive producer on many shows including Dexter and Six Feet Under. Interestingly enough, Jessica Jones show runner Melissa Rosenberg also wrote on Dexter for a long time.
Marvel has described Iron Fist as:
“Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.”
What are Spoilerites thinking about Scott Buck heading up Iron Fist? What do you want to see out of the show? Let us know in the comments below!

If that’s the set-up, I am really relieved. There’s nothing wrong with having an origin story, but I’m a little tired of American foreigners coming into some generic ancient Asian kung-fu village, knowing nothing, then mastering everything way beyond everyone else who has been training for years kind of story line. It’s weird. It’s awkward. It’s goofy. It’s great that they’re not doing it here.
While that description doesn’t fully exclude possibility of having that aforementioned background, I fully agree. I’m not a little tired of that trope, but completely full of it. Let it stay in the 70’s and 80’s where it belongs, since its actually one of the few things I don’t miss from that era’s pop culture. While I get the motivation behind those hundreds of American Ninjas, which was basically racism, by the way, the only thing they could achieve by using that now is how clueless and ignorant these people still are about Asian culture and martial arts. Kung Fu has nothing to do with Japan, or ninjas and vice versa, its time to someone actually get these things right.
A good recent example, the thing I hate most about Batman Begins are these generic Japanese assassin Kung Fu ninjas from Tibet, give me a break.
