At ShoWest this past week, George Lucas dropped by to hype Star Wars: Clone Wars animated film and TV series.
Lucas described the film, which takes place between episodes two and three of the series, as “a stylised cartoon, it’s not photo real…it’s in a Gerry Anderson style, Thunderbirds. The characters have painted surfaces – they look like they’ve been painted.” He also told us that it will feature all the major characters from the films. “It’s got everyone,” he said. “Yoda, The Emperor… everybody that’s in the features is in the animated series. It’s just as if we took the feature and just continued it in an animation style.”
Drawbacks? Well, the original cast won’t be lending their voices to the characters, so that is a bit of let down. The article over at Empire Online also points out the television series won’t feature any characters from the films, but rather tells a story between episodes III and IV that only slightly references characters like the Emperor.
If people are worried about the live action television show sucking, keep this in mind. I loved the Stargate movie, and the thought of turning it into a television series had me turned off initially, but now some 10 years later, it is still going in one form or another.

Yoda – Frank Oz = FAIL.
You KNOW it is true.
I actually like the idea of them focusing on other characters. Trying to have someone else play the iconic characters and shoehorn it into the movie continuity would really just ruin it. Besides, it’s such an expansive universe, it’d be cool to see what else is going on, and how everyone is reacting to the same events we’ve already seen from one perspective. Actually, it could be really great if it focuses on personal stories of low-level everyman characters (of course, you do have to throw in something epic every once in a while).
I agree with Salieri. Yoda-Frank OZ=You’re doing it wrong (to use an worn out term)
Alright, who fed Yoda after midnight?
