Well, the Magic Panel at PAX East has come and gone and while we don’t have the video for it just yet, some lucky people were there and tweeting out the information and some other very good people were nice enough to collect that for us, so if you wanna see some awesome info for Dragon’s Maze or the name and identity of the next year’s block, take the jump.
And we’re just going to jump straight into pics with some explanation for each.
First up, it looks like we have a law-mage from the Azorius Senate, but who is she?
Ah, it’s Lavinia of the Tenth, one of the characters currently in the Return Block novellas.
Next we have our only returning champion, Teysa, Envy of Ghosts, creator of the current Guildpact and semi-head of the Orzhov Syndicate.
And this here is Mirko Vask, Mind Drinker. As a high ranking member of House Dimir, this vampire is one of the few to have met Lazav directly and also played a role in the Secretist giving even Jace Beleren problems.
Ah, a newbie. I know nothing of Melek save for the fact he is apparently an Izzet Paragon. Presumably that means he holds high a number of the ideals of the Izzet League.
Ah, the Rakdos Cult presents yet another player from the Secretist, Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch.
And here’s another person I haven’t seen before from the Golgari Swarm, Varolz, the Scar-Striped.
Ah, the two headed leader of one of the Gruul Clans, Ruric Thar, The Unbowed. He was actually a helper of Jace during the Secretist. Oh, and it looks like some more about him is right here.
That looks to be his card, for those who can’t make that out.
Ruric Thar, the Unbowed, Legendary Creature-Ogre Warrior (Rare) 4RG Vigilance, Reach, Attacks each turn if able (What I think should be called Aggressor) Whenever a player plays a noncreature spell Ruric Thar deals 6 damage to them 6/6
So, he’s cool, also, he’s a Rare as are the rest of the Champions.
And the Boros Legion is fielding an unknown of their own, Tajic, Blade of the Legion.
Ooh, Jace’s lady friend from the Secretist is heading up the Selesnya Conclave. I wonder what Emmara Tandris will be capable of.
Saving the best for last we have the champion for the Simic Combine, Vorel of the Hull Clade. Too bad he looks either Human of Elvish cause I was really hoping for more of the crazy creature combos the Simic had in Gatecrash.
Well, that’s all our champions, but there is some more cool news to share for the Dragon’s Maze Prerelease, and pics to go with.
First off, Maze’s End, the prerelease card for the set and what the entire plane is gunning for. Oh, and since you can’t read it in the pic there.
Maze’s End, Land (Mythic), Enters the battlefield tapped, T: Add 1 to your mana pool. 3, T, Return Maze’s End to its owner’s hand: Search your library for a Gate card, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library. If you control ten or more Gates with different names, you win the game.
Yes, that does say you win the game, and since all of the gates will be available in Dragon’s Maze, that could make for an entertaining limited deck. Oh, one of the other things mentioned, all new artwork for each Guild Gate, too bad no one I found snagged pics.
That is an alternate art foil Plains you get for attempting to solve the Maze at the prerelease, but still more to come.
If you do complete the Maze you are given a code to do something nifty with your Planeswalker Points online.
I think that may be everything. Wait, I forgot about the announcement of all three set names for Friends, Romans, Countrymen the next block.
That would now be the Theros block, which is also the name of the first set, followed by Born of the Gods and Journey into Nyx. Now that is all we’re getting.
So, a strong gout of information here that has me getting excited for what comes next. Although the leaders aren’t Hybrid like I was expecting, this still looks like more fun to come from the plane of Ravnica and the Return to Ravnica block.
Most of the information and all of the pictures here came from GatheringMagic.com and the rest came from the official Twitter account for Magic.
