Press Release
February 6, 2009 – In another sign of Sony Online Entertainment LLC’s (SOE) commitment to the upcoming DC Universeâ„¢ Online (DCUO) massively multiplayer online video game, the company today announced that award-winning writer Marv Wolfman has joined the creative team at WildStorm Productions that is working with SOE to bring the DC Universe to life on the PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system and the PC.
Wolfman will write compelling story arcs, exciting quests and in-game events for DCUO. Wolfman’s seminal run on The New Teen Titans is a favorite among comic book fans, and along with his work on series such as Crisis on Infinite Earths, Batman and Superman, he has become one of the most recognizable names in comics of the last three decades. His illustrious comic credits also include creating and writing Blade, The Vampire Hunter.
Wolfman joins an all-star roster already at work on DCUO, including legendary comic book artist Jim Lee, who serves as the game’s executive creative director, and renowned DC writer Geoff Johns, who is crafting the game’s overarching story. DCUO is currently in development at SOE’s Austin studio in collaboration with DC Comics and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
“Getting Marv on board with DC Universe Online shows just how passionate and determined we are about making sure this franchise delivers for both video game players and comic book fans alike,†said John Smedley, president of SOE. “This is a true collaboration between the top talent at DC and SOE, and I believe the result of this creative alliance will be one of the most exciting, memorable online game experiences to date.â€
Wolfman has been a creative force both on and off the pages of comic books. Wolfman recently worked as a writer for the popular Teen Titans animated series. In addition to Blade, which was turned into a TV series and three hit movies starring Wesley Snipes, he created Bullseye, the prime villain in the 2003 movie Daredevil. Wolfman has received numerous awards and recognition for his work, including the SCRIBE award for best speculative fiction novel adaptation for Superman Returns, and a special commendation by the White House for his work on three anti-drug comics for the “Just Say No†program.
“As a gamer, this is a dream project in many ways,†said Wolfman. “I get to create new stories in the DC Universe that will make this video game world a truly unique, unforgettable experience.â€

Yes, yes Wolfman but how about Dracula or The Creature From The Black Lagoon!
But seriously i want gameplay videos, and i want them now Sony!
IGN dot com put some videos of the game up a couple weeks ago. I think the end result will probably be a little more polished though, it looks just a tad bland at the moment.
Robbie: We have those videos floating around the site somewhere too.
Thanks for the heads-up, and videos those do look a bit bland. The graphics and animation are actually not bad looking but if its going to be real time and not turnbased they have to make character animations for getting hit, having a character getting punched and not reacting at all looks dumb.
They should pay more homage to the fighting and brawler genre rather than the typical MMORPG in that regard though i can see why it may behard from a technical standpoint, and they are still working on the alpha.
But it just feels wrong they have to 100 percent real-time or not at all or else its gonna look dumb! Stree Fighter or Fire Emblem there is no middleground…you dont want your game to loose “impact” and “feel” because the character fight like they are from frkn WOW or FF (Catering to those guys wont help they already play and wont convert easily)…In general Super Hero games have been brawlers and Fighters so i guess this is why it bugs me so much.
Im gonna go play Marvel VS Capcom now…..Now Thats a Game!!!
Oh laawd i typed that in waaaay to fast.
Call me old-fashioned. Call me cheap. Heck, call me crazy if you want. (waits to be called any/all of the above) Now, with that outta the way… As much a DCU fan as I am, and as much as I would enjoy kicking some spandex-clad evil heiney…. Unless the monthly “subscription fee” to this game is ZERO dollars, or something like a penny per hour played, I cannot find it in me to fully get behind this whole MMORPGBBQHDTVWTFLOL craze. I have serious problems with buying something and then having to pay more to use it, regardless of HOW MUCH I make use of it over any given timespan. People may come back with the argument that “you have to pay for cable tv, doncha?”, which is true. There is nothing that states I have to use my tv for cable, nor that I have to pay every time I want to use it to watch one of the DVDs I already own. (Yes, I understand electricity ain’t free, but I only pay for as much of that as I actually consume.)
Also, I’m with ‘glitch: don’t aim this at the Wowfans or the Everpeeps. They already have their drug, and addicts are fiercely loyal to their addiction of choice…
Wyntermute you so craayzeaah!
Looks like i wont ever be one of them newfangled mmo-gamers….Unless the Agency ever comes out.
Or DCUO shapes up….
I’ve played this game a bit and its okay. I play a villian and I named it after a local politician. Still my favorite RPG id advanced d and d pool of radiance. That game was sweet .
