Sony Entertainment has announced that it is moving ahead with plans to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2, even though the first Andrew Garfield movie hasn’t been released yet.
That date? May 2, 2014.
“Now wait a minute,” You say. “Sony must think a lot of this new Spider-Man flick, if they already have plans to make a second movie.”
That may be true, Dear Reader, but keep in mind, Sony needs to keep Spider-Man in production if they hope to keep the franchise rights, and prevent them from reverting back to Marvel Studios/Disney.
But, then again, The Amazing Spider-Man may indeed be amazing…

Between Spider-man and Superman, I’m wondering which one will go “full armor” first! Looks like they are both wearing costumes made out of recycled car tires. Maybe they should give them that “retro” leather bomber jacket and combat utility belt that we all seemed to love back in the ’90s! (NOT!)
These two characters are the “Golden Ring” for Marvel/DC (And, whoever owns them today.)
It just can’t suck!!! Gotta go watch “Howard the Duck” again… just to remind myself how far from wrong I might not be.
I have a question that I’m not sure anyone can answer . . . but this news, coupled with the announcement of the new Ultimate Spider-Man makes me wonder . . .
Could Marvel make an Ultimate Spider-Man movie starring Miles Morales? Or could he be included in a future Avengers movie, as long as they don’t use the name “Spider-Man?” I wonder what, exactly, Sony has the rights to?
With no disrespect meant to the cast and crew of this movie, I actually would prefer the rights go to Marvel Studios. Partially because they’ve done some pretty decent work so far and partially to have a cohesive Marvel film continuity ripe for crossovers.
