SDCC’25: Glitch Productions and Oni Press team for Murder Drones comics and graphic novels

Press ReleaseBy Press ReleaseJuly 17, 20254 Mins Read

    PRESS RELEASE

In advance of Comic-Con International 2025 in San Diego, CA, Oni Press, the multiple Eisner Award and Harvey Award-winning publisher of groundbreaking comic books and graphic novels since 1997, and independent animation powerhouse Glitch Productions are proud to announce a new partnership to create comics and graphic novels based on the world of MURDER DRONES – Glitch’s wildly beloved adult animated series that has accrued more than 300 million views worldwide and inspired a legion of die-hard fans, eye-catching merchandise, and spin-off content in its wake.

MURDER DRONES 001 COVER FINAL FOR DISTROThe new collaboration will begin with an all-new graphic novel adapting MURDER DRONES’ haunting and hilarious 8-episode first season chronicling robot workers struggling to avoid obsoletion on a post-apocalyptic space colony – originally created by Liam Vickers and adapted by acclaimed writer Wyatt Kennedy (Nights, Marvel United) and exhilarating artist Jo Mi-Gyeong (Eve, Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance). Following on from Oni’s record-setting CULT OF THE LAMB and RICK AND MORTY pre-order campaigns on Kickstarter, the first MURDER DRONES graphic novel from Oni Press will debut for pre-order alongside with an array of deluxe, collectible, and exclusive items via a new Oni Premium Direct campaign on Kickstarter launching September 8th, 2025 and then be followed by standard, serialized comic book release to comic shops worldwide in February 2026.

Follow MURDER DRONES on Kickstarter now to be instantly notified when the Oni Premium Direct pre-order campaign goes live in early September:

From the twisted mind of creator Liam Vickers and Glitch Productions comes a heart warming story of “destroy all humans”. In the far future, a natural disaster has flash-frozen humanity’s remote mining exoplanet, Copper 9. Only now the “worker drones” – built by humanity and eventually outlived by them – have to rebuild society from the frozen ashes… An endeavor complicated by the appearance of “disassembly drones,” vampiric robot counterparts hell-bent on wiping mechanical life from the planet and an unsettling virus known as the “Absolute Solver.”

Created by writer/director Liam Vickers and produced by Glitch co-founders Kevin & Luke Lerdwichagul, MURDER DRONES debuted in 2021 to near-instantaneous fanfare – becoming the first Glitch series to accrue ten of millions of views per episode, quickly earning two Webby Awards for Best Animated Video and a passionate worldwide fanbase that has relentlessly tracked the series’ progression and ever-expanding lore. Following the series’ long-awaited finale in 2024, MURDER DRONES recently premiered to streaming households worldwide on Prime Video, and the property is also currently anchoring a new merchandising partnership with counterculture retailer Hot Topic that spans hundreds of storefronts throughout North America.

Following the success of MURDER DRONES, Glitch quickly expanded its portfolio of animated properties to also include THE GASLIGHT DISTRICT and THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS – all fully self-funded and independently produced by the rapidly growing, Australia-based animation studio that has redefined the global paradigm of digital entertainment with more than 14 million followers on YouTube. Now entering its eighth year, the studio’s content is now prominently featured on multiple streaming platforms around the world, including Netflix and Prime Video.

“The team at Glitch Productions are fiercely independent and deeply creative, and what they’ve built is wildly inspiring to witness. It’s an honor for Oni to be welcomed into their fold to help expand Glitch’s footprint into the world of comic book storytelling for the first time,” said Oni Press President & Publisher Hunter Gorinson. “From Invader Zim to Rick and Morty to Cult of the Lamb, Oni Press has always been at the forefront of bringing cutting-edge properties at the forefront of pop culture to comics in daring new ways, and MURDER DRONES is the perfect next extension of that tradition. Whether you’re already a dedicated fan or set to experience these characters for the first time in comics form, we can’t wait to share what Wyatt Kennedy and Jo Mi-Gyeong – two wildly talented creators in their own right – are bringing to this darkly fascinating and instantly engrossing mythology.”

For an advance look ahead at the upcoming Murder Drones comic book adaptation, special giveaways, and more, visit Glitch Productions (Booth #301) and Oni Press (Booth #1829) at Comic Con International in San Diego, CA from Wednesday, July 23rd through Sunday, July 27th.
