Garth Ennis returns to Marvel Comics in May 2024 with Get Fury, a five-issue mini-series, as Frank Castle is tasked with taking down Nick Fury.
There are a couple of interesting things about this series
First is the return on Garth Ennis to Marvel Comics. If you have read some of Ennis’ other war-era tales, you know this is going to get bloody. Which brings us to …
Second, Marvel Comics describes this as a MAX-rated saga. Recently Marvel Comics announced a Red Band cover for Blood Hunt #1, which may indicate Marvel is willing to start leaning more into the mature content realm to attract/retain readers. Whether this is a response to DC Black Label, or something else has yet to be announced by the company owned by family-friendly Disney.
Third, Get Fury is set during the Vietnam war:
It’s 1971, there is a war raging in Vietnam, and Nick Fury has been captured by the Viet Cong. At this moment, they don’t quite understand that they have in their possession a man who knows enough secrets to damage the United States beyond comprehension. The C.I.A., however, DOES realize this, and they can’t risk their enemy getting those secrets, so they dispatch the most deadly man in the U.S. Army – LT. Frank Castle.
Finally, joining Ennis is frequent contributor Jacen Burrows, whose art is very much on point for this mini-series.
Get Fury is scheduled to arrive on May 01, 2024.
