Scott Synder and Jock’s Wytches series is getting an animated adaptation at Amazon.
Wytches was originally published at Image Comics in 2014, as a six-issue horror mini-series.
Across the globe, century after century, men and women were burned, drowned, hanged, tortured, imprisoned, persecuted, and murdered for witchcraft. None of them were witches. They died protecting a terrible and hidden truth: witches, real witches, are out there. They are ancient, elusive, and deadly creatures that are rarely seen and even more rarely survived.
“‘Wytches’ is possibly my most personal work,” Snyder said in an interview at Variety. “It’s all about the monsters that dwell beneath the surface of things, both literally and figuratively. I’ve been intimately involved with this animated series from the start, and I can honestly say that I love this show as much as the book, if not more. The animation brings the incredible art by Jock to life, and the episodic format expands the world of ‘Wytches,’ taking the characters and mythology to terrifying new places. Jock and I are deeply grateful to Plan B Entertainment, Kevin Kolde, and Amazon Studios for believing in ‘Wytches’ and giving us a chance to make this show dark, personal, twisted, and very special.”
No word on a release date, but as an animated series, it wouldn’t surprise me if we saw this in mid-2024.
