The House of the Dragon Activation at San Diego Comic-Con is a perfect primer for Game of Thrones fans excited for the series.
Readers who are familiar with the mythology of Westeros – and particularly the events of Blood and Fire – will pick up on various Easter Eggs throughout the experience. Visitors are met by Prince Daemon Targaryen’s (played by Doctor Who’s Matt Smith in the upcoming House of the Dragon), gold-cloaked knights. They don’t call themselves “Kingsguard” just yet, but they are present to protect, entertain, and warn about the dangers of dragons. They’re quick to inform you they’ve seen a black dragon only – should sound familiar to those familiar with Targaryen lore!
Once inside attendees are led by a guide through the history of dragons and the particulars of how to raise them – along with being led in the experience of hatching their very own dragon’s egg. Sadly, we can report attendees do not get to take the beautiful dragon’s eggs with them upon leaving, but if you download the accompanying Darcarys app you’ll be able to take a digital dragon home for an ongoing interactive experience. Pokémon Go – eat your heart out!
One of the most impressive aspects of the House of the Dragon activation at San Diego Comic-Con is the “life size” dragon’s skull. Balerion the Dread or Balerion the Black Dread has come to rest at Comic-Con. Readers will recognize this name as the dragon Argon the Conqueror road when we conquered Westeros.
The House of the Dragon activation at San Diego Comic-Con culminates in a photo op on the Iron Throne, complete with the dramatic lighting, accompanied by some truly impressive live music. Ramin Djawadi’s original Game of Thrones theme and familiar pieces from the score serenade attendees as they decide what type of ruler they would make astride the Iron Throne.
It’s a fun celebration of everything fans loved about Game of Thrones and are looking forward to seeing explored further in House of the Dragon.
