IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
BEQUEST #1
Writer: Tim Seeley
Artist: Freddie Williams II
Publisher: Aftershock Comics
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: Welcome to the high fantasy world of Tangea! A land where wizards and warriors battle dragons in dark dank dungeons! Where thieves pillage ancient ruins and priests answer the audible words of their great gods!
Welcome to Chicago, Illinois! Where the magical items from Tangea are being traded on the black market and are messing everything up. Now, a group of Tangea adventurers must go undercover in our modern world to stop artifacts and monsters from falling into the wrong hands. But how will they fare in a world without wizards and warriors? A world without heroes? From Tim Seeley (DARK RED, BRILLIANT TRASH) and Freddie E. Williams II (HeMan/Thundercats, Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) comes BEQUEST, a real-world fantasy tale.
CHRISTOPHER: Nothing like fantasy in Chicago. This looks like an interesting premise and I’m excited for an urban fantasy story.
JIM HENSON’S THE STORYTELLER #1
Writer: Jonathan Rivera
Artist: Jade Zhang
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: The Storyteller and his faithful dog take shelter one night from a storm, when the dog becomes scared of a large spider who is also occupying the shelter. Now, discover the story of Anansi, the spider-god, and his quest to free all stories from his father, the sky god Nyame. But when Anansi becomes the keeper of all stories, he hordes them until his son confronts them to free the knowledge that could change the world! Jonathan Rivera (Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye) and Jade Zhang begin the next Jim Henson-inspired epic limited series here, with a different acclaimed creative team on each issue!
CHRISTOPHER: This seems like a good combination of mythology and oral tradition which is right up my alley.
INGRID: I’ve always loved stories of all sorts, including legends and folktales. Trickster stories are a particular favorite, and I am looking forward to this take on them. I think framing them with the Storyteller and his dog will be delightful.
RADIANT BLACK #2
Writer: Kyle Higgins
Artist: Marcelo Costa
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Yesterday: Nathan found an alien artifact that turned him into a superhero. Today? His dad says he has to get a job, so driving for rideshare company Drivr it is. Oh, and there’s also someone else out there robbing banks with powers like his. That’s probably important.
INGRID: The first issue of Radiant Black was solid, and I am curious to find out how issue #2 develops. I enjoy this take on a new superhero who has to take a day job to make ends meet while trying to figure out his powers. To have him immediately having to deal with a villain intrigues me.
STEPHEN: I didn’t know anything about this series, until our Dueling Review fans voted for us to review this book. WOW! I’m glad Radiant Black is now in my life. Not to give this series too much credit just yet, but Radiant Black might just fill that missing Invincible sized hole in our lives.
ROBOT OVERLORD: The time is right to make new friends.
