The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
FIRE POWER #1

SOLICITATION: SERIES PREMIERE! ALL-NEW monthly series created by ROBERT KIRKMAN and CHRIS SAMNEE! The one who wields the fire power is destined to save the world, but Owen Johnson has turned his back on that life. He doesn’t want the power-he never did. He only wants to spend time with his family and live his life, but unseen forces are at work to make that impossible. Danger lurks around every corner as Owen’s past comes back to haunt him.
This non-FCBD version will have an increased page count (44 pages total) and include a sketchbook section featuring commentary by Samnee and Kirkman.
CHRISTOPHER: I am looking forward to this comic book for a while. The prelude was great and thematically it was right up my alley. Can’t wait to see what stories they tell in this mythos!
STEPHEN: TWO issues of Fire Power drop today, and you better believe I’m down for this. While I may not like Kirkman’s zombie series, I love everything else he has done. A two for one New Comic Book Day makes this a must have for me.
REAVER #10
Writer: Justin Jordan
Arist: Niko Henrichon
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: “THE GRIM AFTER,” Part Four-As the conspiracy in Haas Haaden unravels, Breaker hacks his way into its center. And where Breaker goes…death still follows.
CHRISTOPHER: If you like dark fantasy, I think you will like this series. This series has me rooting for bad guys because I hope they can redeem themselves. However, this is the type of book where some characters are just irredeemable.
USAGI YOJIMBO #11
Writer: Stan Sakai
Artist: Stan Sakai
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: “The Return” Part 1 of 4. Usagi is back in his home province for a pilgrimage to his late lord’s gravesite, however wearing the Mifune clan crest in Lord Hikiji’s territory has made him an enemy. Now beaten and almost near death, he has made his way to the one place he had been avoiding—the village in which he grew up. Bittersweet memories awaken with his long-time love, until the village becomes embroiled in a plot to assassinate an emissary of the shogun.
INGRID: Usagi Yojimbo is such a terrific book, and this is the beginning of another short arc, so it’s a perfect place to jump in if you have not been reading this. Usagi makes a pilgrimage to his late lord’s gravesite, which puts him ever closer to his home, a place he’s been avoiding for years, not to mention the people. And of course adventure even finds him here.
YOUNG JUSTICE #17
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis & David F. Walker
Artist: Scott Godlewski
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: This very special issue focuses directly on the friendship at the heart of Young Justice: Conner, Tim, and Bart-a.k.a. Superboy, Drake, and Impulse. As younger men, these three iconic heroes built Young Justice on their friendship. Now their dream has grown and changed as much as they have. And with the demands of adulthood pulling them in different directions, they realize that nights like this one may never happen again.
INGRID: Young Justice has been an interesting mix of great action and thoughtful interpersonal stories. The three young heroes at the core of the team are on the cusp of adulthood. They’re friends, but their personalities and experiences have grown so differently. This just sounds like a fun issue.
ROBOT OVERLORD: Judge not according to appearance
