IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
HEIST, OR HOW TO STEAL A PLANET #6
Writer: Paul Tobin
Artist: Arjuna Susini
Publisher: Vault Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: If you’re going to steal an entire planet, you better have the best team. Only problem is: If you’re working with the best, then you’re in the worst sort of trouble when they turn against you. Especially if they’re using the most diabolical weapon of all (a cat video)!
INGRID: Heist is a clever and diabolical ride. Stealing a planet is grandiose, to say the least. The plot to go about it is daring, comprised of several small, intricate pieces. Each time things move forward, new complications arise. This is a smart, savvy book full of both drama and sly humor that’s also captivating to the eye.
EMPYRE #1
Writer: Al Ewing and Dan Slott
Artist: Valerio Schiti
Publisher: Marvel
Cover Price: $5.99
SOLICITATION: Featuring action-packed extras including a Cover Gallery, Script, Inked And Color Pages and more! The Kree and the Skrulls have united under a new emperor – and their war fleet is on a collision course for our world. On the moon, the Avengers are ready to strike with the full power of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Approaching from outer space, the Fantastic Four are seeking a diplomatic solution. If the two teams can’t work together to save the day, things can only get worse…
INGRID: I’m not always one for big events in comics, but there’s something about this one that intrigues me. I like the idea that the Kree and the Skrulls have united. The Cotati, as a plant-based race are interesting. And setting up a conflict that just so happens to be in Earth’s backyard is the perfect excuse to bring in the Avengers and the Fantastic Four, so it looks like this could be a good time. Or at least an exciting one.
ENGINE WARD #1
Writer: George Mann
Artist: Joe Eisma
Publisher: Vault Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Earth is an ancient myth, long forgotten. Now, the word of the god-like Celestials is absolute, and they rule with brutal efficiency. When Joss, an Engineward, discovers and reactivates the head of an ancient ghoulem, she finds all is not as intended. Her destiny-and that of her world-lies somewhere far beyond the borders of her shantytown.
CHRISTOPHER: I’ve been researching archeology for a story point and I’ve had the thought “What if modern civilization was a major focus of archaeology study?” I think this story may try to answer that question and thus piqued my interest.
IWOLVERINE 2020 #1 (OF 2)
Writer: Larry Hama
Artist: Roland Boschi
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: In the wake of Arno Stark’s crusade against A.I.s, no robot is safe. Fearing of Elsie Dee’s safety in these tumultuous times, Albert, the robot Wolverine, goes to Madripoor to find her but what he finds is a fight against Madripoor’s criminal underbelly instead!
CHRISTOPHER: I dig the premise and the potential theme of “technology will kill us all” and it has been a while since I read a Wolverine solo title even if it isn’t the Logan we all recognize.
ROBOT OVERLORD: Take a minute and let it ride, then take a minute to let it breeze.
