Marvel has announced it will be launching new Alien and Predator series in 2021.
The announcement was made Thursday, and the company promises new series will feature new and classic characters from Earth and beyond, as they explore never-before-seen corners of the Alien and Predator universes.
“There’s nothing more thrilling than a story that will keep you at the edge of your seat, and Alien and Predator have delivered that time and time again!” C.B. Cebulski, Editor-in-Chief of Marvel, told IGN in an interview with the site. “I can clearly remember where I was when I saw each of these modern masterpieces for the first time, and reveling in how both masterfully weave extraterrestrial dread and drama into some of the most iconic scenes we’ve ever seen on film. And it’s that legacy that we’re going to live up to!”
This announcement is yet another blow to Dark Horse Comics, who previously had the Alien, Predator, Conan, and Star Wars series. Dark Horse lost Star Wars when Lucasfilm was sold to Marvel, and now that the Disney/Fox deal is done, it makes sense that the 20th Century Fox characters would also find their way into the Marvel publishing pantheon.
I have a feeling this announcement was to be a SDCC shocker, but due to no show, Marvel will announce release dates, titles, and creators sometime in the future.
