STEPHEN: It feels like forever since we’ve had a new The Amazing Spider-Man, and the solicitation says we can’t miss this issue, so I think we should all check it out.
FLASH #754
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Christian Duce
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Flash is on the run as “The Flash Age” continues! Paradox accomplished his mission to make everyone see the Flash as a monster-and now Flash and the Reverse-Flash are trapped in a 25th century Central City that hates the Flash family and legacy. Now a wanted man, Flash must turn to an unexpected place to get help to return to his own time!
STEPHEN: Okay, I’m down for seeing what happens when Flash and Zoom team-up to try and take down Paradox. This has been a fairly good run, so I’m down with this arc until it crosses the finish line.
MARVEL ACTION CAPTAIN MARVEL #5
Writer; Sam Maggs
Artist: Sweeney Boo
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Go higher, further, and faster with Captain Marvel and the Unstoppable Wasp in a brand-new, middle grade adventure!
Carol and Nadia, currently no bigger than, well, a wasp, are in a predicament-A.I.M. is up to no good, and Carol can’t use her powers because, at this size, she could literally split atoms. Yikes! So what’s the strongest avenger to do? Well, Carol has a lot of ideas-but maybe it’s best if she follows Nadia’s lead on this one… cue: the G.I.R.L. squad!
Enter the secret world of Captain Marvel in this pint-sized Marvel Action adventure!
CHRISTOPHER: Captain Marvel and the Wasp separately does not really interest me. However, I found myself excited to see both of them together in one book without a team of Avengers hogging the spotlight.
MY VIDEO GAME ATE MY HOMEWORK TP
Writer: Dustin Hansen
Artist: Dustin Hansen
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $9.99
SOLICITATION: Meet Dewey Jenkins, a 13-year old schoolkid who’s about to fail science class. Follow him on an amazing adventure that leads Dewey and his friends to a virtual world where they will have to overcome all sorts of digital creatures and solve a number of puzzles in order to get home.
My Video Game Ate My Homework is a funny, fast-paced adventure that shows the importance of cooperation and teamwork, as well as the importance of using your own unique abilities to solve problems. It’s illustrated in Dustin Hansen’s colorful, cartoony style, and filled with lots of sight gags and nods to video-gaming tropes.
Dustin Hansen spent years directing and creating video games before becoming a writer and illustrator, and makes his DC debut with My Video Game Ate My Homework!
STEPHEN: I’ve been sitting on this one for a while, and though I’ve only had a quick read of the issue, my youngest has read this several times since it arrived on our doorstep. If you are looking for a middle-reader book for your kids, this one is definitely worth checking out.
ROGUE PLANET #1
Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Andy MacDonald
Publisher: Oni Press Inc.
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Salvage vessel Cortes tracks the Lonely Orphan, a planet with no star system to call its own. Somewhere on this hostile rock is a payload fit for a king. To attain it, though, the crew of the Cortes must brave razor rock, poisonous vapors, treacherous footing, and… the most mind-numbing horrors imaginable. Something nightmarish is at work on Lonely Orphan. Something cruel. Something hungry.
CHRISTOPHER: I’ve been knee deep with fantasy stories and tropes for work so much so that I have been wanting a break to explore a different genre. Seeing both the creative team and the premise, I have to check out this science fiction adventure.
ROBOT OVERLORD: You are contemplating some action which will bring credit upon you
