INGRID: Bitter Root started out strong and continues to get better and better. It’s high stakes action and adventure set amidst painful historical events and situations. The characters are terrific and the art is brilliant. Rush right out in a buying frenzy, my friends.
OUTLAWED #1
Writer: Eve Ewing
Artist: Kim Jacinto
Publisher: Marvel Entertainment
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: March 18th, 2020
Solicitation: EXPLODING FROM THE PAGES OF INCOMING!
In the wake of a devastating tragedy, the United States passes a law that will shake the Marvel Universe to its core.
The world has had enough of teen heroes. The crackdown has begun. And the lives of Marvel’s next generation will never be the same again.
EVE L. EWING and KIM JACINTO launch a new era in this game-changing event one-shot that will send shockwaves across the Marvel Universe! You won’t want to miss this one!
Jonathan: This is a case of “I’ll take what I can get”. I really enjoyed The Champions series and was sad to see it go. So it’ll be nice to see that group back together. This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen the whole “superheroes are illegal” story. But, I’m very curious how this is going to play out when it’s specifically the teenage vigilantes that are targeted.
POWER RANGERS TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #4
Writer: Ryan Parrott
Artist: Simone Di Meo
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: March 18, 2020
SOLICITATION: It’s the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers as you’ve never seen them before vs Shredder!
No, really.
Just imagine the coolest thing we could do and, yeah, we’re doing it.
STEPHEN: POW! BIFF! BOOM! The turtles suit up and the Rangers go all ninja on the foot Clan.
STARSHIP DOWN #1
Writer: Justin Glampaoli
Artist: Andrea Mutti
Publisher: Boom! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: March 18th, 2020
Solicitation: A cultural anthropologist consults with US Naval Intelligence to investigate the discovery of an extraterrestrial ship buried under the ice for thousands of years in Siberia. The meddling Russians, Vatican officials, the international media spotlight, and her own insecurities all threaten her efforts to keep the fabric of society from crumbling.
o A brand-new thriller with blistering art from Andrea Mutti.
Jonathan: From reading the solicitation, I’m getting a real “Annihilation” feel from this, which is a brand of sci-fi I can really get behind. Plus, with it only being a 4-part series I know I’m not in for a real long time investment here.
UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY #5
Writers: Charles Soule & Scott Snyder
Artist:. Daniele Orlandini & Giuseppe Camuncoli
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: March 18th, 2020
Solicitation: “DESTINY,” Part Five-The key has been found, and now it’s a race to find and unlock the gate leading deeper into the former United States before the Destiny Man catches up with our team, tears them apart and feeds every last chunk to his hungry beasts.
Jonathan: This series started out with a bang. But, the pace has dropped and I’m getting worried that it’s heading to that “Lost” or “Morning Glories” territory where it’s all mystery and weirdness with no payoff. The team of Soule and Snyder is hard to deny though and it will only take one solid issue to get me fully back onboard.
WICKED THINGS #1
Writer: John Allison
Artist: Max Sarin
Publisher: BOOM! Box
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Eisner Award winning team of John Allison and Max Sarin return to the world of Giant Days for a new series about everyone’s favorite child detective; Charlotte Grote. Nineteen year old Charlotte Grote has her whole life ahead of her; headed straight to Oxford and a future as a real detective — until she’s framed for murder! Given the choice between going to jail basically forever or joining the police, Lottie decides to hit the beat, all while trying to find the real murderer. Lottie may have been running rings about the police since her 9th birthday, but she’s never been on this side of the security tape. Could the future of law enforcement be 5’2″ with an extremely strong bangs game? Yes. Very yes.
INGRID: John Allison has a knack for writing about young people in a fusion of slice of life with an additional wacky premise, and a healthy dose of humor thrown in. Wicked Things takes the trope of the child detective and plays with the idea of now what does Charlotte Grote do with her life? This is brimming with fun, and we could all use a little fun these days.
ROBOT OVERLORD: Check with your LCS this week to make sure they are still open, or if they are offering curb-side pick up. I like you meatbags, and want you around for a long time.
