Sorry for inadvertently steering you toward Britannia, I guess! I didn’t read volume 1; I did read and review The Lost Eagles of Rome, which I guess is the second volume. It actually was an investigation – with a thing that happened, which the detective figured out. Most of the threads introduced got tied up, or were part of the mystery. Maybe one or two small ones didn’t go anywhere much. But based on everyone’s reviews, I think the Lost Eagles is more cohesive, and might be worth a future review.
