IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
ACTION COMICS #1011
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Steve Epting
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Leviathan wins! After the destruction of anyone and everyone who could stand in its way-from Lois Lane’s military father, Sam Lane, to agencies such as Spyral and Checkmate-the newly reorganized and amped-up evil organization stands ready to topple even the Man of Steel! With a shocking conclusion that’ll affect the entire DC Universe over the summer, don’t miss the epic and unexpected conclusion to “Leviathan Rising.”
STEPHEN: OH MAN! I have been loving everything Brian Michael Bendis and Steve Epting have been doing in Action Comics. Right now, it is the one comic I look forward to with each release. The Leviathan story has built to such a peek, I can’t wait to see if DC will pull off the Leviathan event, or let it crash and fall. Regardless, you can tell Bendis is having a lot of fun adding all the characters we haven’t seen in years into this story.
ARCHIES SUPERTEENS TP
Writer: Ian Flynn
Artist: Various
Publisher: Archie Comics
Cover Price: $12.99
SOLICITATION: Pureheart the Powerful and his group of heroic friends battle against all odds in this collection of action-packed tales! Archie Comics’ two most renowned superhero teams, the Superteens and the Mighty Crusaders, meet up for the first time ever! Collects the two-issue crossover event, plus the best of the classic Superteens in an extended bonus collection you can’t miss!
MATTHEW: This was a fun crossover on a number of levels, and it’s great to see Archie embracing their checkered sixties past. Frankly, anywhere there’s a Jughead in a cape with a burger on his chest, I’ll be there.
INCURSION #4
Writer: Andy Diggle and Alex Paknadel
Artist: Doug Braithwaite
Publisher: Valiant Entertainment, LLC
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: It’s time for the boss battle: Eternal Warrior vs. Imperatrix Verago!
Young Tama’s life hangs in the balance during this otherworldly battle. Will she survive, or will the Earth need to choose a new Geomancer?
Alex Paknadel (Friendo), Andy Diggle (Green Arrow: Year One), and Doug Braithwaite’s (Wolverine) conclusion is downright epic, but what else would you expect from this creative team and a story this massive?
INGRID: This has been terrific miniseries packed with interesting characters and great dramatic moments. I can’t wait to see how it all concludes!
INVISIBLE KINGDOM #3
Writer: G. Willow Wilson
Artist: Christian Ward
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics, LLC
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: On the Sundog, Grix is desperately fleeing Lux . . . and running out of fuel. On Duni, Vess wrestles with her spiritual doubts and the newfound knowledge that she is not alone. When she responds to the Sundog’s mysterious distress signal, the unlikely pair will learn too quickly that there is no turning back now.
INGRID: This is an intriguing story about corruption of a religious order in cahoots with a major intergalactic corporation. The two women who independently stumbled upon this are about to meet, and it looks thrilling!
THE TERRIFICS #16
Writer: Gen Luen Yang
Artist: Stephen Segovia
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Terrifics have entered cyberspace for a battle unlike any they have faced before. It’s a battle against…God? Well, the science is still out on that, but as our heroes face off against all manner of monstrous plagues, things do seem to be reaching biblical proportions. Could the key to all this be the mysterious Pixel?
MATTHEW: With Silencer ending next month, The Terrifics is the last man standing of the New Age of DC Heroes books, and it’s also the one most deserving of survival. I hope to see this book make it to issue #50, simply on the strength of the cast, and the promise of Yang on writing duties makes me very happy.
UNDERDOG & PALS #1
Writer: James Kuhoric, Pat Shand
Artist: Bill Glavan, Adrian Ropp
Publisher: AMERICAN MYTHOLOGY PRODUCTIONS
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: There’s no need to fear, Underdog is here! And so are his pals! This awesome jam issue includes an ongoing chapter of heroic Underdog adventures and even more fun with the rest of the gang including Commander McBragg, Tennessee Tuxedo, Chumley, and more! Enjoy Saturday morning cartoons like you remember with brand new Underdog & Pals fun guaranteed to bring a smile to your face!
MATTHEW: I’m always gonna be a sucker for Underdog, and I’d love to see more cartoon all-ages books on the stands, so this one is a win/win.
