The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
BATMAN TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES III #1
Writer: James Tynion IV
Artist: Freddie Williams II
Publisher: DC Comics/IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The 80th anniversary of Batman collides with the 35th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in this stunning concluding miniseries to the BATMAN/TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES trilogy. Our heroes have battled the evil of the Foot Clan in Gotham City and Bane in New York, but now Krang has gotten his hands on the most dangerous technologies in the DC Universe-and no universe is safe from his wrath! Co-published with IDW.
STEPHEN: Who would have thought this crossover series would have made it through one mini-series, let alone three. Surprisingly good for Batman and TMNT fans, and I think you’ll find something you like in this book.
DCEASED #1
Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Trevor Hairsine, James Harren, Stefano Guadiano
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION:
“I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was Death, and Hades was following close behind him.”-Revelation 6:8
A mysterious techno-virus has been released on Earth, infecting 600 million people and turning them instantly into violent, monstrous engines of destruction.
The heroes of the DCU are caught completely unprepared for a pandemic of this magnitude and struggle to save their loved ones first…but what happens to the World’s Greatest Heroes if the world ends?
New York Times best-selling writer Tom Taylor (INJUSTICE) returns with a terrifying new tale and is joined by artists Trevor Hairsine (LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT) and Stefano Gaudiano (The Walking Dead).
STEPHEN: I thought we already did this series sometime in the last ten years… regardless, this is a book a lot of people are going to pick up, and we are going to review it on this week’s Dueling Review podcast.
ELVIRA: MISTRESS OF THE DARK #5
Writer: David Avallone
Artist: Dave Acosta
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Elvira’s temporal adventures land her in hot water – so hot — one more time, and it may be the last. Her new nemesis sends her to the worst place in the universe, and we’re not talking about Encino! See it all go to Hell in the fifth exciting chapter of ELVIRA: TIMESCREAM, brought to you in Elvirascope (no special glasses required) by artist Dave Acosta (TWELVE DEVILS DANCING) and written in Elviravision by David Avallone (BETTIE PAGE), the team who brought you DOC SAVAGE: RING OF FIRE and TWILIGHT ZONE: THE SHADOW.
INGRID: You know, sometimes you just want a book that is sharp, sassy, and fun to read. If it pokes a little fun at classic literature along with way, with a heaping helping of double entendres, well, what’s not to like?
GOGOR #1
Writer: Ken Garing
Artist: Ken Garing
Publisher: Image Comics, Inc.
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: From KEN GARING, the writer/artist of the acclaimed series PLANETOID, comes an all-new ongoing series of wonderfully weird high fantasy! Deep underground, among the floating islands of Altara, the mystical Gogor sleeps. But trouble brews above ground as soldiers of the Domus impose their will across the land. Now, a young student named Armano must awaken Gogor and begin his quest to protect the culture of Altara. This debut issue kicks off with 28 pages of story!
INGRID: Now this book looks intriguing. I’m always open for a new fantasy series, and this one looks like it has all kinds of interesting characters. And to have a quest that takes place among floating islands brings a lot of potential to the art as well.
ROCKO’S MODERN AFTERLIFE #2
Writer: Anthony Burch
Artist: Mattia Di Meo
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Rocko and Spunky must brave the zombified landscape of O-Town to make it to Filburt’s house, who has taken up quite a few odd survivalist habits.
STEPHEN: While the zombie genre is waning, and Rocko hasn’t been relevant since 2000, this book is amazingly on point when it comes to commenting on modern society.
