IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
ADVENTURES OF THE SUPER SONS #6
Writer: Peter J. Tomasi
Artist: Scott Godlewski
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Super Sons are lost in time and space! On the run from the Gang and trapped on the Planet of Secrets and Mystery, Superboy and Robin have lost everything and gotten a glimpse of how their tomorrows may end. When the planet’s mysterious creator returns for his broken creation, the boys find out that tomorrow sucks as much as yesterday.
STEPHEN: I… didn’t realize that this series was this good. Not only are there dark brooding moments from Damien, but there are also some classic Silver Age appearances by a space monkey and a Planeteer. No, really. I don’t think you need to read the previous issues of this series unless you want to know what the heck a Rex Luthor or Joker Junior are.
ATOMIC ROBO & DAWN OF NEW ERA #1
Writer: Brian Clevinger
Artist: Scott Wegener
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: No more sci-fi catastrophes for Atomic Robo. This is now a quiet series about the charming antics and sitcom misunderstandings that happen at a boarding school for future Action Scientists. Also, Robo’s hiding a secret AI son in the basement… Bye!
Celebrating 10 years of Atomic Robo!
It’s the dawn of a… wait a second… the title says it all!
Robo as a teacher and a dad?! Heck yeah!
STEPHEN: There are only two words I have to say. Atomic. Robo.
That is all…
DOMINO #10
Writer: Gail Simone
Artist: David Baldeon, Alberto Alburquerque, Anthony Piper, Michael Shelfer
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: You saw her on the silver screen, now Domino’s live and direct from the Mojoverse! Can you guess which special guest is along for the ride? The answer’s a real long shot…
MATTHEW: This book has been among the best of the new X-stuff, right up there with X-Men Red. Which got cancelled. So, this is apparently my X-book now.
GO GO POWER RANGERS #16
Writer: Ryan Parrott
Artist: Eleonora Carlini
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Rangers have swapped costumes and powers…and nothing’s working right! Can Trini step up to lead the team and stop Rita from acquiring the ultimate weapon?
MATTHEW: Wanna know what’s fun? Ongoing adventures of the kids of Angel Grove with a modern sensibility and really good art.
STAR WARS AOR JANGO FETT #1
Writer: Jody Houser
Artist: Luke Ross
Publisher: Marvel
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: THE MOST FEARED BOUNTY HUNTER IN THE GALAXY!
• JANGO FETT’S reputation precedes him as joins a crew for what seems like a simple job.
• Wait, is that a KID with him?!
• Will his fellow bounty hunters be foolish enough to betray Jango and his son, BOBA FETT?
STEPHEN: Everything you wanted to know, but were afraid to ask, will be answered in this series from Marvel. Right? RIIIIIIGH? Eh, it’s Star Wars. I trust Jody Houser to tell a fantastic story, plus I’m sure there will be more than a few people who have their brains rattled by any revelations.
YOUNG JUSTICE #1
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Patrick Gleason
Publisher: DC (Wonder Comics)
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: Superboy! Wonder Girl! Robin! Impulse! Amethyst! They’re all united in YOUNG JUSTICE #1, the debut issue of a brand-new series that also introduces new heroes Teen Lantern and Jinny Hex! When the nightmare dimension known as Gemworld invades Metropolis, these teen heroes reunite to deal with the situation-but they’re shocked to discover the battle may be the key to the return of Conner Kent, a.k.a. Superboy! This mix of fan favorites and new legacy heroes will be the center point for some of the biggest goings-on at DC! As if that weren’t enough, Bendis reunites with all-star artist Patrick Gleason (SUPERMAN, ACTION COMICS, GREEN LANTERN CORPS) to bring the new heroes of DC’s Wonder Comics to life!
MATTHEW: I’m a little bit worried about this one, but I really love the art, the group of characters are interesting, and Superboy’s back in his original 90s punk-rock outfit. I’m willing to see how it all works out.
