The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
ATOMIC ROBO AND THE SPECTRE OF TOMORROW #5
Writer: Brian Clevinger
Artist: Scott Wegener
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Saving the world makes for strange bedfellows. For instance: when you’re up against a worldwide network of cybernetic doppelgangers, sometimes you have to team up with your oldest nemesis to stop them from killing everyone. Luckily, you can always trust a nemesis, so everything will be okay!
STEPHEN: A solid ending to a well-told tale from Clevinger and Wegener. You’ll want to make sure you read this entire volume, so you are ready for what is coming next for Atomic Robo and his action scientists.
BATMAN BY NEAL ADAMS: BOOK ONE TPB
Writer: Bob Haney, Cary Bates, Leo Dorfman
Artist: Dick Giordano, Vince Colletta, Joe Kubert
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $24.99
SOLICITATION: Neal Adams’ epic tales of the Dark Knight are presented in a newly recut collection of stories from WORLD’S FINEST COMICS #175-176 and THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #79-85. These stories include Batman’s team-up adventures with Deadman, The Flash, Aquaman, Green Arrow and the Teen Titans!
MATTHEW: This Bronze age stuff represents the comics I cut my teeth on, and classic Neal Adams art is always worth the price of admission. The Teen Titans crossover here is amazing stuff all by itself…
RASPUTIN: THE VOICE OF THE DRAGON #5
Writer: Mike Mignola, Chris Roberson
Artist: Christopher Mitten
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Bruttenholm and Sandhu reach the site of the Nazis’ occult activity, where the shadowy ”Master” himself is about to complete his occult experiment.
STEPHEN: OMG. This is my favorite comic of 2018. Such good storytelling, mixed with the mythos of Hellboy, and the brilliant art of Christopher Mitten. Definitely, a must read this week.
RICK AND MORTY PRESENTS: THE VINDICATORS #1
Writer: J. Torres
Artist: CJ Cannon, Nick Filardi
Publisher: Oni Press
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: Learn the secret stories and hidden pasts of your favorite Rick and Morty characters in Oni Press’s new quarterly series of one-shots: RICK AND MORTY PRESENTS!
In this first issue, J. Torres (Teen Titans Go!, The Mighty Zodiac) teams up with Rick and Morty series artist CJ Cannon to explore the twisted and bombastic history of THE VINDICATORS in an all-out superhero comics extravaganza. Read in amazement as the superhero team travels through dimensions to recruit other heroes to defeat a villain of their own making. Gasp in shock and awe as the plot twists and previously irrelevant characters revive from the dead! Frown in frustration as you forget the complicated backstory of suddenly important mythic items! And most of all… WUBBA LUBBA DUB DUB!
MATTHEW: I don’t know what this is, but there’s a cyborg crocodile in it, so I’m going to read and find out what the what is going on…
SAVAGE DRAGON #232
Writer: Erik Larsen
Artist: Erik Larsen
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Enter: the Wraith! He can walk through walls! Nothing can hold him! Nothing can stop him! And only one man dares to try: Malcolm Dragon!
MATTHEW: Ever since Erik Larsen decided that his Adult Rating meant exactly that, the goings-on in Savage Dragon have gotten even weirder and more over-the-top sexual than before. I’m not entirely sure I WANT to know what happens next… but I can’t look away.
THE SHADOW / BATMAN #6
Writer: Steve Orlando
Artist: Giovanni Timpano
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: For centuries, the Silent Seven has held Earth in its evil grip…but nothing lasts forever. The Shadow and Batman have infiltrated the Seven’s personal stronghold, hidden off the map and away from history, at great personal cost. They didn’t expect to find one of their own standing against them once they arrived. It’s Robin versus Batman with society itself in the balance as the Shadow steps into the one place even he has feared to go: The Deadly Mind of Shiwan Khan. Can three generations of crimefighting overcome centuries of evil? It’s a crucible they can only overcome the one thing none of them have: trust.
STEPHEN: This has been a fun cross-over tale, and I want to see how the dark knight and his source of inspiration come together to fight the big bad. Unfortunately, Damian Wayne isn’t going to die, but what are you gonna do?
