IT’S NEW COMIC BOOK DAY! #NCBD
The best day of the week just got a lot better with a new round of awesome comics arriving in stores this week. Staff members at Major Spoilers are here to help you with your comic book selection this week, with their roundup of comics they recommend.
30 DAYS OF NIGHT #2
Writer: Steve Niles
Art by: Piotr Kowalski
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The town of Barrow, Alaska experiences an unexpected and brutal murder that is the precursor to much worse things… the reimagining of 30 Days of Night continues in an all-new and all-horrifying direction!
RODRIGO: 30 Days of Night, the original at least, was a surprise hit from what sounds like a pretty basic late night conversation about vampires. “If vampires hate the sun so much why don’t they just move to, like, Alaska, or something?” Although the question I’m personally setting out to answer is “Do we need to ‘reimagine’ 30 Days of Night?”
DISSONANCE #1
Writer: Singgih Nugroho
Artist: Sami Basri
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: In an alternate world where Earth is populated with powerful human-spirit hybrids called Fantasmen, Folke and Roisia Herviett, two siblings with opposing worldviews, are challenged to prove their worth and take up their parents’ positions in a devious group who secretly run the world. Meanwhile, Seraphim, a Fantasmen warrior guard, is sent to prevent a catastrophic event from affecting the Earth and its own universe.
RODRIGO: Looks interesting! This book is making a lot of interesting promisses, so we’ll see how they execute.
DOOMSDAY CLOCK #3
Writer: Geoff Johns
Artist: Gary Frank
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $4.99
SOLICITATION: The story takes a turn in the third chapter of this 12-issue series you never thought you’d see, from writer Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank.
STEPHEN: The last page reveal of issue two had me shaking in anticipation of what is coming next. My prediction made during Dueling Review will either pay off or reveal something even more strange this week. Doomsday Clock is definitely a series worth checking out, regardless if you are one of those “this never need to happen” guys or not.
JUGHEAD THE HUNGER #3
Writer: Frank Tieri
Artists: Pat and Tim Kennedy, Joe Eisma, Bob Smith, Matt Herms, Jack Morelli
Publisher: Archie Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: NEW ONGOING SERIES! This is it—the confrontation you’ve been waiting for! Werewolf Jug vs Werewolf Hunter Betty Round 2! The last one ended in a draw—this one may end one of their lives!
STEPHEN: Since we are in a virtual limbo waiting for the next Afterlife with Archie and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, I’m checking out Jughead The Hunger, because I want to see how cray-cray the publisher can get with its horror titles.
LUMBERJANES #46
Writer: Shannon Watters
Artist: Ayme Sotuyo
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: 3.99
SOLICITATION: While on their Jackalope quest, the Roanokes meet Emmy, a roaming cowgirl, and her herd of critters and cryptids.
RODRIGO: I’ve been meaning to check back in with the Lumberjanes, I’m interested to see how the characters have developed since I last saw them.
VINEGAR TEETH #1
Writer: Damon Gentry
Artist: Troy Nixey
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: As a human being, Artie Buckle is a grade-A schmuck. But he’s a pretty damn fine cop. Good thing, because Brick City is under siege from its citizenry and only an unlikely partnership with a mysterious, tentacled, extra-dimensional being can put an end to the escalating crime problem. Thing is, there’s a danger far greater than cub scouts robbing banks . . . oh my! Across space and time lies a far greater threat, not only to Brick City but to the world! Holy crap! Can the two get past their differences and save the planet? Well, of course they can, but getting there is gonna be a helluva fun ride.
STEPHEN: Lovecraft meets Lethal Weapon? TAKE MY MONEY!
