Last month, Marvel announced it was doing away with the policy of giving readers a free digital version of the physical comic they were buying in exchange for three comics no one ever wanted. So many fans responded negatively to this announcement – many even sending us email saying they were done with Marvel Comics forever because of this – that Marvel has changed its mind.
“We heard the message loud and clear on Digital same issue codes,” said David Gabriel, SVP Sales & Marketing. “We heard how folks across the world were using them, relying on them, loving them. We are always looking to do what’s best for fans and the comics industry so we’re pleased to make this program even better. Now, print comics readers will receive a code for the issue they purchased, and also an additional bonus comic giving customers even more value for their purchase.”
Can’t say that we didn’t see this coming, especially in light of the recent “blame everyone but ourselves” interviews that popped up online late last week.
Free digital copies return with Secret Empire #1 that arrives on May 3, 2017.

My biggest problem is now I’m going to have gaps in my digital collection. Which will drive me crazy. I’ll have to wait for sales to get those issues.
