ALL NEW INHUMANS #7
Writer: James Asmus
Artist: Stefano Caselli
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: AN ALL-NEW ADVENTURE STARTS NOW! The Unpredicable Anna Kravinoff (a.k.a., one of the Kraven family) joins the cast and leads Crystal and her crew to the wilds of Africa in search of a hidden Inhuman enclave that holds answers to Flint’s past. Who are these isolationist Inhumans and why was Flint sent away at such a young age?! Those answers will cause the All-New Inhumans all kinds of problems.
ROB: I was not expecting Kravinoff to be helping the InHumans here. I’m even more interested then I was before. The cast here has been interesting and I want to see more of where this goes.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #12
Writer: Dan Slott
Artist: Giuseppe Camuncoli
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: • POWER PLAY begins now! The Amazing Spider-Man, Iron Man, Spider-Man and the rest of the All-New All-Different Avengers come together for this huge story! The most dangerous foe from SECRET WARS, REGENT makes his true intentions known – and it will take the greatest heroes of the Marvel Universe to stop him.
ROB: Peter Parker is usually at his best working with others. Getting to see him and Miles interact more should also be fantastic. Besides, with Dan Slott at the helm, there’s no way this can go wrong.
STEPHEN: Miles and Peter AND The Avengers? The series has been very solid since its post Secret Wars launch, and though I’m not eager to resurrect that series here, I’m in for Amazing Spider-Man.
BLACK WIDOW #3
Writer: Chris Samnee, Mark Waid
Artist: Chris Samnee
Publisher: Marvel
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: RED ROOM BY MORNING, SPIES TAKE WARNING
• The Weeping Lion has Black Widow under his thumb.
• Until Natasha learns his true motivations, she’s trapped playing his personal weapon and spy…
• He’s controlling the best in the world, and sending her to the place she never wanted to go: home.
CHRIS: Mark Waid and Chris Samnee did something I never thought would be possible: Make me enjoy a Black Widow comic. She’s never been a character particularly interesting to me, but that fist issue was so fantastic I was hooked. The second issue just solidified my love of this book and if you haven’t picked this up by now, you’re missing out on some great storytelling.
STEPHEN: Wow, this series is so good! Right now it is the series I’m most eager to see and read when I see it on my pull list.
BRUCE LEE: THE DRAGON RISES #2
Writer: Jeff Kline & Various
Artist: Brandon McKinney
Publisher: Darby Pop
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Alive and… well… alive in North Hollywood. Bruce Lee remains both a fish out of water – and a man on the run. As Bruce and Joe try to unravel the mystery of Bruce’s previous imprisonment, villainous alliances shift, and the stakes only rise. Of course, there’s also the small matter of Jax and Wren and their missing father. Is there a connection? Is Bruce still wearing Joe’s boxers, circa 1973?
MATTHEW: I’m still not sure if this comic is genius or cheese sandwich, but either way, I’m really interested in seeing how it plays out…
STEPHEN: Probably one of the strangest comics I’ve seen recently. The art is fantastic, but the story doesn’t know if it wants to be a high action adventure or Jackie Chan Adventures with a moral at the end of every issue. Still, worth checking out if for no other reason than to try something new.
BUNKER #17
Writer: Joshua Fialkov
Artist: Joe Infurani
Cover Artist: Allen Passalaqua
Publisher: Oni Press
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Things are going well for Senatorial candidate Grady Potts until Natasha and Daniel are caught committing a horrible crime. Now, with all of his friends in prison, fingers begin pointing to Grady… and he no longer has anyone to turn to.
WAYNE: This title is really different, and I love that! I can’t help but imagine me and my friends in such a situation, so it’s terrific writing! Highly recommended!
KLAUS #5
Writer: Grant Morrison
Artist: Dan Mora
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: Magnus passes judgement on Klaus, and the enemy’s past is revealed.
WAYNE: I know, I know – Christmas was months ago! Summer’s almost here, too! But I’ve been enjoying Morrison’s take on this legendary character, so I’m there will Christmas bells on! Hopefully, you will be, too!
LADY MECHANIKA: THE LOST BOYS OF WEST ABBEY #1
Writer: M. M. Chen
Artist: Joe Benitez, Peter Steigerwald
Publisher: Benitez Productions
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The best-selling steampunk comic is back with a brand new story by the original art team! Lady Mechanika returns home from her adventures in the Dark Continent only to find a killer on the loose in Mechanika City. What connection does he have to Lady Mechanika’s past?
CHRIS: This comic was a gem that I discovered when it first came out. It’s got some great steampunk designs and each miniseries has had wonderfully written adventure stories in the vein of Indiana Jones. Lady Mechanika herself is a great protagonist with a take no s#!% attitude. The artwork is mind blowing and there is more detail on one page than there is in a whole issue of other comics I’ve seen. Highly recommended for Steampunk fans.
PREDATOR LIFE AND DEATH #3
Writer: Dan Abnett
Artist: Brian Thies
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: The Colonial Marines discover the corporate claim jumpers they’re protecting have been hiding what they know about the massive, horseshoe-shaped alien spaceship. Meanwhile, the Predators go on the offensive!
CHRIS: What I originally thought was going to be the typical Predator story seems to be slowly morphing into something else. I’m not entirely covinced but Abnett looks to be leading us there. So far this has been an Alien story with the Predators in place of the Aliens, which has actually been fun to read. I’m happy to see Dark Horse embracing their Alien/Predator worlds again and look forward to more in the future
PUNISHER #1
Writer: Becky Cloonan
Artist: Steve Dillon
Publisher: Marvel
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: FRANK CASTLE LOSES CONTROL!
A by-the-numbers drug bust is about to take Frank Castle by surprise…and he HATES surprises. The horrible fallout threatens to send The Punisher into the heart of darkness, but Castle won’t make that journey alone: A DEA agent is on his trail and attempting to get into his head…but what horrors will she find there, and will she survive the experience? First-time Punisher writer Becky Cloonan and quintessential Punisher artist Steve Dillon are forcing Frank Castle out of his comfort zone and taking him to the edge of the world he thought he knew!
CHRIS: Normally I wouldn’t be that excited for a new Punisher series, but this one has two things going for it: Steve Dillon on art and Becky Cloonan writing it. I’m extremely excited to see what Ms. Cloonan has in store and what new ideas she’ll bring to the table. And who doesn’t love to see Dillon draw some Punisher ultra-violence?
SUPERGIRL COSMIC ADVENTURES IN THE 8TH GRADE TP
Writer: Landry Quinn Walker
Artist: Eric Jones
Publisher: DC Comics
Cover Price: $12.99
SOLICITATION: Supergirl’s cosmic adventure is back in print! Supergirl meets Belinda Zee, a new junior high adversary, in this all-ages title collecting the six-issue miniseries. And that’s just the start of the fun that includes super-powered pets and cosmic adventure!
MATTHEW: Fun, all-ages adventures that still have drama without dismemberment… Are we SURE this is from DC?
UNCANNY X-MEN #7
Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Ken Lashley
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: “APOCALYPSE WARS” CONTINUES! Fearing their teammate Archangel has once more fallen under the sway of the villainous Apocalypse, Psylocke and Magneto have embarked on a mission to save his life. But they’re about to make a discovery that will make them doubt everything they thought they knew! Meanwhile, Sabretooth and M make a horrifying discovery of their own in the Morlock Tunnels beneath New York City…
ROB: I believe this is my favorite X-Team currently. It’s got my favorite character arcs going on with at least two of them, the redemption arc, and possibly a couple more, so I’m in for awhile with this one.
THE WICKED + THE DIVINE #19
Writer: Kieron Gillen
Artist: Jamie McKelvie
Publisher: Image Comics
Cover Price: $3.99
SOLICITATION: “RISING ACTION,” Part Two: Gods of the Underworld, in the Underworld. Perfectly safe now. Definitely. Stuff definitely doesn’t explode. That doesn’t happen.
MATTHEW: A beautiful book that I recommend to all fans of comics (who are over 18 and little bit weird.)
