    [Solicitations] Bone is back!

Stephen SchleicherBy Stephen SchleicherApril 27, 20162 Comments2 Mins Read

Cartoon Books has announced that Jeff Smith is bringing Bone back for one more ride… to Boneville!

It’s been 25 years since Bone first appeared on store shelves, and in that time, we’ve seen a complete story, fell in love with characters, and watched as others departed. Now in the new graphic novel, Jeff Smith takes the Bones, Bartleby, and the Baby Rat Creature across the desert to Boneville.

The book will also contain the complete text of The BONE Companion, fully illustrated by comic historian Stephen Weiner.

BONE: CODA is scheduled to arrive in July.

For Bone fans, this is definitely a chance for the gang to get back together one more time. But, I wonder, could this be a case of “be careful what you wish for?” Could fan expectations be so high, and Jeff Smith’s style of storytelling have changed enough that the end result feels like a forced money grab instead a work of passion of a tale that needs to be told? At this point, beyond the initial concept, we haven’t seen a price, page count or synopsis of the story, so while many will be excited over this announcement, I have a feeling many will also be a tad cautious.

From the Previews catalog out today:
      120 pages, b&w, for $14.99

      The solicit adds:

“…a new (and completely superfluous!) adventure featuring the Bone cousins! Ride along with the boys and their friend Bartleby the Rat Creature as they brave the dangerous journey across the desert back toward Boneville in their rickety cow cart.”

I’m hopeful for some silly fun.

Oh man! More Bone!? I’m so excited. Yet will have to try and remain cautious so I am not crushed if it’s not as good as I want it to be.
