Oni Press, Portland’s premier independent comic book publisher, is proud to announce the hiring of Andrew McIntire as Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Rachel Reed as publicity coordinator, and the promotion of Ari Yarwood to Managing Editor.
“Marketing is easily the hardest job in comics,” says Publisher Joe Nozemack. “With a line as diverse as ours, it can be a challenge making sure each of our titles gets the right amount of attention and shelf space in an increasingly competitive marketplace. With Andrew McIntire, we have someone who has run a chain of comic stores, consulted for a variety of publishers and who understands the challenges of an evolving marketplace that comic retailers face every day. Further strengthening our marketing team, we have Rachel Reed. Rachel’s passion for comics and her experience selling comics at retail gives her insight into what is important to readers. Both understand on a fundamental level what makes Oni Press’s books great and together with Director of Sales Shy Allott we’re confident we have a team that can work with press and retailers alike to increase both the awareness and sales for our library of critically lauded comics and graphic novels.”
“Making those excellent comics is a tall challenge as well,” says Editor-In-Chief James Lucas Jones. “One that managing editor Ari Yarwood makes easier in every way. Her incredible intelligence, taste, and sterling work ethic have been an indescribable boon to Oni Press. In two short years, with titles such as Rick and Morty and Another Castle under her belt, Ari has become one of the most exciting editors in the industry and with the new opportunities and responsibilities that come with this title, I know she will only continue to astonish.”
Editor Ari Yarwood Promoted to Managing Editor
Ari Yarwood, whose previous experience includes work for Bitch magazine and The Masters Review, joined Oni Press in 2014. Since then, she has edited projects such as The Life After by Joshua Hale Fialkov and Gabo, Stumptown by Greg Rucka and Justin Greenwood, Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty, and the upcoming Another Castle by Andrew Wheeler and Paulina Ganucheau. Her proudest moment, besides publishing a Rick and Morty one-shot called “The Ball Fondlers Special,” is introducing the entire Oni Press editorial staff to the Hamilton soundtrack.
“I’m beyond excited for the future of Oni Press and my role within it,” says Yarwood. “I’ve never worked for a company so focused on just making good content, whether that’s a book about an intergalactic cooking competition or a story about a high-security prison for kaiju. In the coming months, you can expect to see some big announcements and partnerships out of Oni Press that I think cement our position in comics as the best place for really great books that are accessible to a modern, diverse market.”
Rachel Reed, Publicity Coordinator
Rachel Reed is a recent graduate of the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and a concentration in Advertising. She previously studied Sequential Art at Savannah College of Art and Design and completed a marketing internship at the comic book publisher BOOM! Studios in Los Angeles, California. She previously worked at The Pop Culture Company, a comic book retailer in Houston, TX, for two years and served as the The Valkyries point-of-contact for publishers. Reed’s hire follows the departure of Oni Press Director of Publicity Fred Reckling.
“I’m thrilled to be working at Oni Press, and I am beyond blown away by the comics we have coming down the line,” says Reed. “I’m personally excited for each and every title, and I can’t wait to announce them. My job is literally to tell you how excited I am about our comics. It doesn’t get better than that.”

Andrew McIntire, Vice President of Marketing and Sales
Andrew McIntire joins Oni Press after seven years with retailer Things From Another World (TFAW), where he oversaw marketing, publicity, sales, and retail operations as Vice President, prior to resigning in 2014. He spent 2015 working as a consultant to multiple publishers with a focus on sales channel development and championing retailer incentive programs. Prior to his career in comics, he held leadership positions across a variety of industries including private security, printing, and aerospace. A lifelong nerd of many stripes, he will happily talk your ear off about comics, hip hop, military history, and tabletop games if given half a chance. You’ve been warned.
“As a retailer, I was always impressed by the diversity of content published by Oni Press and by how well they curated such an eclectic catalog,” says McIntire. “When I ordered an Oni book, I knew it was going to be a story I hadn’t read before and executed at an unfailingly high standard. That commitment to diversity and quality is a reflection of the people who work at Oni, and I’m honored to be joining such a fantastic team. We are looking forward to welcoming retailers to Oni’s hometown of Portland, OR for ComicsPRO, where they will be the first to hear about the amazing lineup of titles we have slated for 2016 and beyond.”
Oni Press is a premier sponsor at ComicsPRO 2016. The 10th Annual ComicsPRO Membership Meeting takes place in Portland, OR at the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower February 18th–20th.
