Yesterday, Disney unveiled the latest editions to the Disney Infinity video game system, and my wallet is already feeling the pain that is coming when we line up to buy all of the new figures and sets.
First up is the news that everyone has been asking for over a year, “When is Star Wars coming to the Infinity system?” The company answered with more than we could hope for as there will be three Star Wars Play Sets which includes Twilight of the Republic, Rise Against the Empire, and The Force Awakens.
- Twilight of the Republic characters include Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and Darth Maul.
- Rise Against the Empire will feature Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Darth Vader. Gamers will get to pilot the X-Wing fighters and the Millenium Falcon as the action takes place on Tatooine, Hoth, and Endor.
- The Force Awakens characters are still being kept under wraps as many of the actual characters from the movie have yet to be revealed. The Force Awakens characters and play sets will arrive in the winter close to or after the release of Star Wars Episode 7.
If Star Wars isn’t enough for you, Disney also announced TRON characters Sam Flynn and Quorra will be playable figures coming soon.
More you say? Okay, how about a Play Set based on the upcoming Inside Out (along with the characters from the film), new Mickey Mouse, Minnie, Mulan, and Olaf that can be played in the Toy Box. The Marvel Universe expands with a new Play Set that we understand will include Hulkbuster and Ultron figures.
Personally, I’ve never been a huge fan of the Toy Box, but my sons love that feature of Infinity if for no other reason than it gives them a chance to build a world and then tear it down as they fight each other. Disney seems to understand that a more structured play in the Toy Box is desired by many as we will see Toy Box Expansion Games that will allow all the Infinity characters to play action-adventure and kart racing type games.
As with Disney Infinity 2.0 gamers will need to buy the new 3.0 base set, but the price has been lowered to $64.99 and will include Anakin and Ahsoka. Pre-orders are happening right now at many game and online stores, and I know that the boys and I will be making the trek to our local game shop to place our orders now.

Crap, I was hoping for Star Wars as a late release for the existing 2.0 game. Still, nice that it is finally making it’s way to the game.
Now to add it to my birthday and christmas lists and hope I’ll actually be able to get my hands on it (since between normal bills, medication costs and med bills, I don’t really have the funds for non-essentials very often, and even trying to save up gets sidetracked thanks to my health issues and ER trips).
