Next week at the San Diego Comic-Con, look for Archie Comics to not only talk about the recent death and After Life of Archie, but also about the next Sonic the Hedgehog series.
According to the publisher, the third ongoing Sonic the Hedgehog series will be called Sonic Boom and will based on the upcoming video games, and Cartoon Network animated series.
Written by bestselling Sonic comic scribe Ian Flynn, the comic series will reside in the same story universe as the TV series and games, featuring a different take on the Sonic the Hedgehog universe, with a new look and feel. Sonic and his friends Tails, Amy, Knuckles and new member Sticks, must come together as a team to explore a new world full of comedy and adventure.
In an interview with IGN, Ian Flynn said, “Sonic is still pretty much what you’d expect – quick-witted, playful, and snarky. Tails is likewise very much the same as he’s been in the current games – an equal partner in Sonic’s adventures. Knuckles has gotten a bit goofier, but his friendly rivalry with Sonic remains. Amy has traded in her total fixation on Sonic for being the sensible one of the group… mostly.”
In addition to the regular cover, Archie Comics plans to release three other covers that connect together to reveal a much bigger focus on the characters from the series.
Sonic Boom #1 arrives in stores in October.
