A long time ago, Marvel Comics published the first Star Wars comics based on the movie series. Now that Star Wars is now under the umbrella of Disney (as is Marvel), the publisher is collecting those tales in a giant omnibus.
“With Star Wars poised to return to its comic book home, what better time to revisit the first adventures of Luke, Leia, Han, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2 and, of course, Darth Vader?” says Marvel Editor In Chief, Axel Alonso. “I am extremely proud to present these original Star Wars stories, told as only Marvel can, in the first in a massive and glorious Omnibus series.”
Star Wars: The Original Marvel Years collects Star Wars (1977) #1 -44 and Annual #1, and will be released in January 2015.
Dark Horse Comics did collect this series back in 2010 in two different volumes that included the first 49 issues of the series, so if you have that you have read (or re-read the series). On the other hand, the Dark Horse collections were smaller in size – only 6-inchs by 9-inches, and I’m guessing (because it isn’t stated in the press release from Marvel), that this will be a hard bound collection at the full comic book page size. At 400 plus pages, it better be bound well in order to hold up.
